Hi everyone, I had my last blast of docetaxel 2 weeks ago and am considering taking biotin tablets to try and kick start my hair into growing back - anyone else got any experience of doing this, and didn't work?

  • Hi food you only hange thr one dose of Docetaxel in the end, as I remember your post on the Jan. Chemo thread.  Docetaxel is the worst one for slow hair recovery (unless cold capping) so it shouldn't be too long before it starts to grow back if that's the case. I'm sorry that I can't really answer the question,  though I've heard others say that it's helped them. You shouldn't take it during chemo though,  as it can make chemo less effective.  I'm 7 weeks post chemo,  and desperate to get hair back as don't wear wigs, and have 1" of hair all over with long bits! I'm trying biotin for hair supplement,  Mane and Tail shampoo, castor oil and a multi vitamin,  all recommended to me.  Good luck!!

Hi Londonmumof2, yes I only had the one docetaxel in the end. The side effects were horrendous, ending up with me in hospital with chest pains and problems breathing last Monday and Tuesday. I made the decision to stop my treatment after consulting with my oncologist. I just want to start healing now and getting myself fit and healthy again - is the biotin you're using an oil or a tablet? I'm already using Argan & coconut oil on my scalp. How soon after your last treatment did you start on the supplements? Sorry to ask so many questions! :-)
