I started taking Cipla brand Letrozole in December after ending chemo, but a combination of it, a Zoledronic acid infusion and the residual chemo caused me to have really bad pains in my leg for a week or so and I stopped the Letrozole until last week. I asked for the Accord brands as I read quite a few if you find it the best generic brand, and started taking it on alternate days last weekend. Well, it seems not to cause the hot flushes (yet, anyway), but I've been getting pain in my hands and feet, and the last two nights have woken up to my right hand numb and claw- like for a few minutes. I'm taking glucosamine, multi vitamin and mineral tablets and omega 3/6/9 capsules. I'm guessing I need to change brand again, but wondered if Accord have changed their formula? What brands do you suggest, and how do I buy Femara to try?
Thanks!
Hi Londonmumof2,
I got told that the side effects ease after about 3 months, and yes they have, I use Accord brand and have done so since the start. Began in April 2018. But I have more joint problems than I used to and still get a few hot flushes.....

Thank you. I'm hoping that it will settle but would like to find the best brands for me a soon as possible:) I don't mind the hot flushes, it's the joint issue I'm worried about.
I am on Femara (self funding). I have quite bad joint pain. I don’t think there is a perfect solution. Good luck with your search. Please let us know how you get on. I will be very interested to know what transpires. I would love to hear that you have found a funded brand that doesn’t make your joints hurt. xx
Hi
iv been on letrozole since July last year, had accord for few months but my pharmacy cannot get them brand now , so I have changed brands, my joints ache and I get flushed occasionally , I also get numbness and tingling in my fingers at night, but not too bad really, I find walking is good for my joints, if I sit for long periods I get stiff, it’s a pain getting the same brand at the pharmacy at the moment. We don’t pay for our prescriptions in Wales so I expect they look for the cheapest option, hope you will not have too many side effects

Hi @oks, how do you buy your Femara? Is it better than thr genetic ones? Please message me if you done wasn't to post on the forum, add I doubt my doctor would agree, but I'm going to work through brands and see how they all effect me, and I'll post updates over the months. X
Hi , So did you get on with Accord? That's why I requested it, and my pharmacist ordered packs of 14, as the 28 ones were unavailable.
Hey! I have been on accord for a year now. At the beginning, I had hot and cold flushes regularly and my joints and muscles particularly my feet ached. A year on, I rarely have hot flushes, my main problem is sore feet particularly if I have been up and about a lot. I have tried insoles, different shoes and joint supplements together with antihistamines....to be honest I am not sure any have helped! The mornings are the most difficult and it takes 5-10 minutes of walking to get going....and then after a while it just feels like they are bruised.
So I suppose what I am trying to say is ....it’s manageable, irritating and often sore...never thought at the age of 52 I would feel the need to put my feet up! But it doesn’t stop me working or exercising....only 9 years to go!
Hi I started on Cipla Letrozole yesterday and expect to start radiotherapy this week. I took part in the Optima trial, and though it took a tortuous 4 weeks to get outcome due to Christmas, I didn’t get chemo. I am nervous about the pains and flushes starting again but so grateful I don’t have to go through the torture of chemo. Is there anything you can suggest to ease the pains of the hormone therapy and Zoledronic acid? Any experience and advise gratefully accepted I in awe of how brave you all are.

Hi Londonmumof2, my Accord packs have gone from 28 to 14 too, same size pack, half the number of tablets. Cynically i wondered if it’s a financial gain for the company, since then the NHS have to fork out as its cancer medication, twice the number of packs might mean twice the funds from NHS?
Other thought is that it ‘swamps’ the shelving in the warehouses and therefore gets more attention?
that’s just cynical me....
hope you find it ok though. At 74 I’ve found myself admitting to feeling over 50 at last, lol! (My offspring still think I’m mad though!)

Hi ,
I’ve been on Alendronic acid for 5 years now as I already had osteopenia pre bc, have to remain on that for at least as long as I take Letrozole. When I began that I got bone and joint pain and tried Claritin (antihistamine, generic name Loratidine) and proved it helped as I ran out and pains returned, till I started it again. So I’ve continued. I also (with agreement from BCN) take glucosamine with chondroitin and think that is helping too.
