Hi

just a quick question but has anyone had eye trouble after chemo? Had my third FEC and today I’ve started with agitated watery and stinging eyes. I wasn’t sure if it was to do with a reduction in eyelashes . Anyone else?

I got sore, dry eyes and blurred vision the day after my 1st chemo and it lasted throughout. GP prescribed Carbomer gel which was very soothing. Thankfully it has almost completely resolved since finishing chemo.

Another delightful se of chemo  - no eyelashes = sore eyes. If you go to the pharmacy you buy gel over the counter and gel works better than any else cost less £5.

I also had problems with my eyes during FEC chemo, sore and watery plus blurry vision.  Latterly I had regular migraines, which for me were visual impairment in my left eye followed by headache and nausea.  I've only just realised that 2 months on since my last chemo they have stopped completely, so there is light at the end as things will go back to normal eventually.

  • Hi

The pharmacist gave me the above , explaining that although my eyes watered a lot , my tears were weak. I use this now , great for sore eyes and doesn’t leave a film . I have been left with dry eyes that water but if I use this every morning and night , my eyes are great .

    Good luck

  • thanks everyone for your help. I’ve spent most of the day with watery but sore eyes. It’s like when you suddenly open your eyes in a morning, and you have to rub them kind of feeling! So annoying but will go to the chemist tomorrow and get sorted.
    Thanks

Especially use them at night as that is when our rapid eye movement occurs and you wake up sore and red, another tip when on these drugs I find a thin smear of Vaseline (one with Aloe I use) at the edge of,NOT in the eye protects them from the crispy crystals that dry in the night and they are easy to remove.

Tearing can also be used to see if you are dehydrating,if your eyes feel dry and you usually tear have a drink and count,is amazingly quick how they return to producing again.Unfortunately the oily part of your tears do not respond so well, but if you cup your warm hands over you eyes for a while you may find this helps,it does me.
