hi I had a flu jab on Friday and since then I’ve felt as if my whole body has been hit with a sledge hammer is the first time I’ve ever had a flu jab is this normal?
Was advised by oncologist to have it before my next EC chemo which will be this coming Friday but I feel rough I’m having my bloods done tomorrow and oncologist appointment Tuesday hope it doesn’t delay my next chemo treatment do you think it might?
Wish I hadn’t had the jab now xx
Hi Julus,
The jab is an inactive virus and so cannot give you flu. You may have been getting a cold and was unaware when you had your injection or it may be due to your immune system's response to it. I finished chemo 7 months ago and as a nurse have had the flu injection for as many years as I can remember. I have felt rough on a couple of occasions, but would always have it.
For you to get actual flu would be so much more detrimental and also the "herd immunity" helps to protect other around you who may be vulnerable. Sitting in clinic with other patients who are immuno compromised would put you all at risk.
Sorry to hear you're feeling so lousy. Paracetamol and plenty fluids does the job for me. Do hope you're feeling better soon and good luck with the rest of your treatment.
Gail
