I had a lumpectomy on Monday for DCIS and am desparate to get back to the gym and to running. When can I a) run b) lift weights c) box?
Thank you for you help and advice.
Hi, I had an Mx with implant and love yoga but was firmly told 2-3 months, and even when I went back my yoga teacher made sure I didn’t weight bear for a further few weeks. I know that was a slightly bigger op but I’d leave it a good while. Maybe ask your BCN for advice?
however, running and walking etc is great if you feel ok and wear a supportive bra....

Just want to recommend M&S post-surgery Extra High Impact Sports bras. You get the VAT off the tag price and they are really comfy, supportive and hard wearing. I’ve bought loads over the last few years as I’ve needed various sizes! (I don’t work for M&S ) If it’s available to you, I would recommend getting advice from a specialist Macmillan physio regarding your exercise goals. I did and it really helped me to get my fitness back and save my mood. Good luck.
Hi
i had a lumpectomy 7 Nov 19, I had a bad bleed and had another op 8 Nov to stop it. I was very bruised and had a drain in for a week.
After about 4 weeks of doing the recommended exercises I felt ready to do a bit more. I was tired and a bit sore/stiff but I knew I was getting more unfit just sitting at home. I started off walking on the treadmill everyday for an hour, after 2 weeks I felt ready to start my couch to 5k again, very gently! A good bra and patience is getting me there.
My OH who is a fitness nut and ex military has said absolutely no weights for me until 2 months after my radiotherapy which is planned for Jan 20. He says my body can’t rest enough whilst I’m heeling and recovering from treatment.
i don’t know if I will be able to keep up with the running whilst having radiotherapy but I’m gonna try. I feel so much better in my mind exercising, control is good again.
Be patient, good luck
Ruby xx
Thank you.
I'm doing the same - about an hour walking everyday either outside or on the treadmill. The thought of running yet though is not there - it would hurt too much. Some pectoral strength has come back, thank goodness. iI'll find out more re next treatment on Monday.
