I would really appreciate anyone's feedback, help, advice. So I've had to have a scan (for an recurring illness, not cancer) and it has been discovered that I have a thickened uteral wall, so now my oncologist doesn't want me to continue taking tamoxifen. They now want me to have Goserelin and take Anastrozole. Yet again, all the side effects that can come with taking it. I felt really strong about not taking tamoxifen, took it and only for a couple of months and now look, it's been decided I can't be on it. I really don't want to take any medication. It doesn't stop cancer coming back, just blocks oestrogen.thr oncologist says it makes a substantial difference, but what is that difference? I feel I'm in a no win situation. Don't take anything, it could come back, but my argument is it could come back anyway, all medication does, is block hormone's. Or face horrible side effects, I've actually felt so much better since not taking tamoxifen.

Anastrozole is in the news at the moment because the research suggests that the side effects are really worth risking due to how effective the drug is. It seems to keep working for years after you have taken it too. In the current trials 75% of women carried on taking it even with side effects (so it suggests that they are manageable). Saying that, some women on here have found  the joint pain really awful ( see other threads on here). You might not get all the SE's either? Good luck deciding! Xxx

  • Hi

I'm on Anastrozole and I don't have any side effects to speak of.  Very occasionally I'll have an achey thumb or knee, but I didn't want to take tablets either.  I finally decided to 'give them a go' and I've been on them for about 2.5 years with no problems.

Give them a go and take it from there.

    Best wishes,
