5 months after finishing radiotherapy my breast is still very tender. Is this usual?

  • Hi Taz

I think it is quite normal from what I’ve read on here. Mine certainly was although I was treated for a touch of breast oedema, which can be common after a lumpectomy. That also made my breast tender. I’m about 18 months on from RT finishing now and it’s much better but I still find it can be niggly if I’m overdoing it. Time really is the best healer.

    Take care,

    Linda xx

Hi taz , I’m the same. Finished radiotherapy on the 5th June but still tender especially of a morning when I sit up in bed. I was told it should get better with time but this could be my new normal. Nicky

  • Hi

Yup - in fact I remember after a year post radiotherapy suddenly thinking "wow, my breast doesn't hurt anymore".  When I had my final sign off and mentioned to my BC nurse it still hurt she said very matter of factly "It will, it's still early days yet".

Radiotherapy keeps on working, which is good on one way - still killing those potential cancer cells!

    Best wishes,
