Just wondering if anyone has had a recall during follow up mammogram... I've had to have a core biopsy .. they say it's a tiny bit of calcium but waiting to know is horrible..
I was recalled from my first screening mammogram. I only found out on day that it was due to breast calcification- one area 10mm the other 5mm! My recall was at one stop clinic so repeat mammogram, biopsy, examination. Given appointment for a week later and results. There were 5 of us there at recall . 2 were sent away with no biopsy based on repeat mammogram and ultrasound.
I didn’t find the biopsy painful at all as I had a local anaesthetic and they topped up before moving to other area.
My results were 10mm DCIS - early cell changes and the other area benign. I had surgery to remove both areas then radiotherapy! That was 2015 and I just have annual mammograms. I did have biopsy of good boob last year after mammogram but it was fine.
Hi,
I find this discussion interesting as I had microcalcifications dating back to 2011 and they didn't do anything, unfortunately I put my trust in them, then low and behold, a 4CM IDC and 1CM DCIS in the area where the calcifications had been. Their excuse, they didn't expect this to happen! So it is a question of postcode lottery I think and their views on certain medical stuff and how they decide to investigate/treat.
My consultant did tell me some doctors think surgery /radiotherapy is over treatment of DCIS as it may never progress
I'm so sorry to hear that peterawake - makes me want to be double sure they treat it correctly.
Thanks for sharing that.
Yup my consultant said that I was lucky to get him back in 2015 ( first brush with BC) as several of his colleagues in the hospital would not operate .
But please go for the RT. Read my profile to discover why?
And yes postcode lottery it can be
Hope all goes well,
Leolady56 - second mammo and all clear
Life is like a boxing match, defeat is declared not when you fall ..... But when you refuse to stand up again ....... So, I get knocked down but I get up again. x
Thanks Leolady56 - read your profile and it's be a tough one for you hasn't it. I think it is the uncertainty at the meoment that is getting me down. Got appt on Tuesday to find out results.
Have has BC twice now, once just op & RT and once op, Chemo & RT. If we have to face it again we will.
Look after yourself x
