Red spots on Paclitaxel

Good evening everyone,

Over the last week or so I've developed a few red patches of skin which are flaky on top and just under 1cm in size. In the last 3 days I've also developed red areas on my cheeks with little red blobs on them. I get a red face, neck and upper chest on day 2, which Piriton helps, and usually clears up by day 3, but this is new. Has anyone had these symptoms. The first red area was actually a harmless small heart-shaped seb. keratosis (I had my doctor check it in the summer!), which is now slightly larger and red. This happened suddenly this week. I presume that the chemo has altered it's chemistry/growth(?), but don't know.....

I'm down for Paclitaxel number 7 tomorrow, but combined with everything else am wondering about having it now. I know that you can't say whether to have it, but I wondered about the skin issue? xx

I've had 2 Paclitaxel and have come out in little spots and red patches on my nose and a little on my cheeks. My skin is also very dry and flakey. In fact I look like Rudolph at the moment so very seasonal! I tried antiseptic cream which works for a little while but then it comes back. I'm trying aqueous cream now. At least it's very moisturising and has no scent.

  • Hi

When I was on weekly Paclitaxel I came out in an acne type of rash in both cheeks - my GP prescribed Fucidin HC cream (a mild steroid cream) and my Chemo Unit recommended Cetraben cream which you can buy in Boots. It took several weeks after finishing the chemo for the rash to go but it did and now my skin is fine. Hope all goes well for you.

I've had a few weird skin reactions...the last few days I've had very itch red lumps on my front and back but, having finished chemo, I think it must be a reaction to Herceptin or Adcal. During chemo my skin became so dry a couple of times it was like I shed a whole layer of flaky skin, almost like sunburn peeling off in places. Also had acne like red spots round my nose and eyes during Paclitaxel.

I have never been so pale, having used sunbeds all my life (I know, I know)...which I stopped using after diagnosis. Weirdly during chemo a lot of my freckles and moles have 'fallen off'...I mentioned this to my oncologist and she said she had never heard of this happening. I can only assume the chemo has got rid of this 'damaged' skin.

  • Hmm.  So the fact they are red and larger means that they might be going away as your Paclitaxel is attacking 'abnormal cells'. That's a nice weedy to look at, as a positive,  although if that happens I miss my heart- shaped 'tattoo' on my arm! Sitting in the chemo suite now waiting on blood results,  then cold cap then chemo. X
