Worst day today all seem to be never ending. Woke up to my surgery incision of nearly 6 weeks of issues burst today, went to clinic they cleaned and dressed as I just cried and cried after thoughts they cancel my 2 op on Thursday but consultant still going to do re excision and now take more out. I feel lost in all this has anyone had experience in surgery incision reaction like this. They say it not infection but sent sample of but mentioned an area died!

  • It's Heart breaking. My heart goes out to you.I too had problems, immediately after surgery of mastectomy and reconstruction. I bled and had to be taken back to theatre. So opened up twice more. Then became anaemic, ended up with blood transfusions. They put a radiator in my room, and lots of blankets to keep me warm, as they knew my nipple and under the new boob reconstruction would die. I went back to theatre two days later for op no 4.  I had bled again. Lots of antibiotics and 10 days later i was allowed home, still on the antibiotics.  1 week after that I had op no 5 to get rid of the nipple and necrotic tissue. I have had the last 8 weeks or so of slow wound healing. Specialist dressings and twice weekly dressing changes. Drainage of seromas x5. Never a dull moment.

I never thought I was going to heal, then all of a sudden it all came together. My skin is still fragile and I'm still recovering.

You will heal, it just sometimes happens no matter what you do. I've seen it myself with my job. (I'm a nurse).

I increased my protein and calorie intake as it's fab for wound healing. Your body can betray you, but can be also amazing at times.

It's hard after everything you've been through, it feels like one step forward and two back. But hang on in there, you will feel strong again.

I found the community here is amazing.
