Hi

i am having my first Herceptin injection in thigh on weds () - I have had 3 Fec but had a severe anaphylactic shock with my first Paclitaxel so oncologist I can continue with Herceptin without any more chemo.  I have heard that with the first one, they keep you there & monitor you for reactions for up to 6 hours but I’ve been told my appointment is only for half an hour?  Anyone else had a very short appt with first herceptin? Since my scary reaction to the Paclitaxel everything is magnified & worrying me even more now

  • Hi ,

Im due to start Herceptin injections first week in Jan so will be very interested in the answers you get . I'm due to see Onco on Monday prior to no 6 EC . This is first question on my list ,everthing I've read says 6 hrs I just not sure whether it the infusion or injection or both .

hope it all goes ok For  you

  • It's supposed to be 6 hours. I was only there for maybe 90min after the injection. Total time with Tax was only about 4 hours I think.

Hi...I had a hypersensitivity reaction to my 1st Trastuzumab (Herceptin). I'm getting it by 3 weekly infusion and now get full premeds before each infusion...10mg IV Piriton, steroids and paracetamol. I had rigors, high temp and flushed face and neck. I've had 5 so far...the last one I had no reaction, the one before that I had a slight temp and flushed face...so they repeated the premed drugs and slowed the IV down. I'm usually there for 2/3 hours.

It's weird it doesn't happen every time and I don't drive to those appointments in case I end up with 20mg IV Piriton on board and feel sleepy.

Oh my word - I had major anaphylactic shock to first Paclitaxel so chemo stopped & straight onto herceptin- I am really nervous after the reaction I had to the Paclitaxel!!  I’ve phoned the nurses tScreams morning & they said I will need to stay at least 2 hours after the injection (I’m having it in my thigh ScreamScream) which I would rather do to be safe x

They told me it was rare to have a reaction to Herceptin which is why they don't premed routinely. I've had full anaphylaxis previously...to nuts and latex... and know how scary it is. Hopefully you'll be fine. I assume you had premeds before the Pax but still reacted?

Bit late to this as I assume you already had your first jab today, hope it was all fine?  I had my first jab of Herceptin in my thigh 2 weeks ago and had to stay for 90 mins after.  Was fine but they monitor you to watch for reactions although they are extremely rare apparently.  Due my second one next Monday and have to stay for just 30 mins this time so fingers crossed you have a similar experience and are now tucked up at home.

    XOXO

Hiya.  Had first jab yesterday morning - all ok - stung a bit but nurse was lovely & my wonderful sis in law came with me & held my hand lol.  Had to stay 2 hours but we just went to hospital cafe.  To date - no reaction - just a bit achy but ok.  Absolutely thrilled!!!  Next one not til 30th so can enjoy a Baileys or two over Xmas.  CT scan next week ready for Radiotherapy in January - it’s all go lol.  Hope you’re ok xx
