Good morning ladies I’ve come over from the follicular lymphoma group I have been diagnosed with breast cancer have seen breast doctor who said I will have a lumpectomy waiting for appointment for that can anyone who has been down this route give me advice on what this means and is it the right choice and wants me to take letrozole pick up from gp next week while I am waiting for lumpectomy. Thank you jeanette49
Hello Jeanette,
and welcome though so sad you’ve had to find your way here as well, that’s really tough!
i didn’t have a lumpectomy but a full mastectomy; but it cleared the cancer so all I needed was Letrozole, as mine was firmly oestrogen positive. The idea of Letrozole is that it lowers your oestrogen levels to prevent any oestrogen-fed cancers which unfortunately can occur in us ladies who have had HRT. Yes I did, for 10 years over the menopause years.
So for you, the idea is to lower your levels to prevent any possible spread within your breast so that the removal of your lump will be straightforward. I hope that’s all you will need..... your surgeon will be experienced at doing this, and if you’ve any queries, your BCN will help, there should be a nurse available to answer and in my unit they work closely with the surgical team and will be happy to help with any of your concerns.
Hugs xxx
