hiya well I never I went to see my consultant today to have the two week after mastectomy and reconstruction check up today, everything has gone well even though I feel by the end of the day my boob is like a football and quite sore he’s happy that it’s doing great
as usual he always says would you like us to answer any questions or have any concerns
so I mentioned that I had an in growing toenail that looked like it was infected ( in fact I squeezed yellow puss out of it this morning) he was really concerned said the infection in my toe could lead to infecting the implant in my reconstruction and could delay the chemotherapy (which I thought any way ) but was surprised about it leading to infecting the implant he has put me on a course of antibiotics to start straight away and has asked me in fact told me to see my gp first thing tomorrow morning to get it sorted
he said any type of infection could lead to infecting the implant and should be dealt with immediately by the breast cancer team/chemotherapy team or GP gosh! Good job I asked I had got a kit from the chemist ( over the counter stuff) but it’s just a spray and some little clips to stick to the nail to help it grow out but the consultant said it needed to be sorted immediately
lesson learnt don’t take things for granted xx
Well
i went to my GP this morning as I was advised by the consultant and sat for 2 hours ( you don’t make appointments you just sit and wait) got to see the GP only to be told your consultant is over reacting and to just take the antibiotics the consultant prescribed GP said “as for the GP to “sort out” your infected in growing toenail you would be put on a waiting list that could take up to 6/7 months before you would even be seen, so just take the antibiotics!! and stop worrying “
Not impressed at all by my GP
Hmmmm, might be worth seeing a good podiatrist? I go every 6 weeks as I’ve a tendency to ingrowings, and he keeps me walking on air, bless him! Costs £35 but well worth it I think!
hugs xxx
Moomy
I second moomy's suggestion. I see a chiropodist every 6 weeks due to a road accident at 17 where I have been left with a damaged leg/foot. My OH had an ingrowing toenail and went to the same chiropodist and he carried out the operation at his surgery and only had to wait a week for the appointment.
His doctor is useless, he's had so many problems with his ankles and needed an insert. His doctor recommended a 'mate of his' who gave him moving inserts - he got up one morning and 'crack' his ankle broke! His doctor told him he was making a fuss over nothing and told him to go home. He went to A&E and they carried out an x-ray to discover a break. Eventually he was diagnosed with osteoporosis. The chiropodist I recommended him to made one for him as a temporary measure and he then went to a different private company (rather than the doctor's mate who'd charged him £500+!!!) and got them to make a permanent one the same as his temporary one for a couple of hundred pounds - hasn't looked back since. (He knew there was no point trying to get a referral on the NHS from his doctor).
Some doctors are just awful, but if you find a good private chiropodist, then it is worth paying between £30 - £36 every few weeks to ensure you can walk comfortably!
