I had a mastectomy and diep reconstruction three years ago and have been taking zoladex monthly and tamoxifen daily. Today I was told that after two more injections I no longer need to take zoladex. I’m 45 and despite the hot flushes have actually enjoyed not having periods. Are they likely to come back...
Hi
I don't know the answer to your question but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered. By responding to you it will 'bump' your post back to the top of the page where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who can help.
I'm also tagging this group's Community Champions , GRANNY59 and into my reply as they may know the answer to your question or, if not, point you in the right direction.

I’m 51 and have had Zoledex since January.....I have not been told when I can stop. I wanted to have ovary removal but oncologist is not convinced....I have been told I could be on it for years! Hate the injection!
, I have been on Zoladex for 3.5years now and will continue with them until my Oncologist is Happy I have gone through natural menopause, i’m 44 or I choose to have my ovaries removed! However I have Secondary Breast Cancer so am in a slightly different position!
What I wanted to say was, please make sure you talk things through with your Oncologist as I would imagine it is highly likely that as soon as you stop the injections your ovaries would start working again, in time and therefore be fuelling your body with oestrogen! I am still left wondering today, 3.5years on, whether my Cancer might not of spread to the bone IF I had of had the Zoladex alongside the Tamoxifen right back when I started Tamoxifen 5years ago! Of course I will never know.
However if Zoladex is stopping the oestrogen I would be asking the Oncologist why he feels now is the time to stop it? I’m not saying any of this to worry you, I’m just hoping it helps you to feel able to put more questions to your team!
I hope this helps a little. Sal xx
Morning
Noticed Latchbrook 'tagged' me but I have no experience of Zoladex as J was post meno when diagnosed and went straight onto Letrozole.
Thought it was a case of if chemo or other drugs didn't cause the ovaries to stop producing hormones you were either offered an Oophie or Zoladex until you were declared now into menopause then Zoladex was stopped and Tamoxifen replaced by any one of the AI's like Letrozole or Anastrozole etc.
Could you have a blood test to see if you are now post menopause - I assume you would have to be off Zoladex for a period (no pun intended) before the blood test to check for this accurately ?

Injection is horrible I have to say. I was petrified of the pain every month until my gap suggested emla cream. I apply it and a tegaderm plaster for around an hour before hand. Numbs the area and makes it completely and totally pain free. Transformational. Ask for it, it really works and I have been so positive about it they are prescribing for other patients too!
