Hi everyone I wondered if any of you have experienced a really awful/ long / heavy period whilst on chemo? So far it has lasted for 8 days and shows no sign of stopping. It's totally different from normal and really heavy. I've been told not to use tampax either so it's totally HORRID!!!!! I'm having my blood taken tomorrow to check that everything is ok for second EC chemo on Wednesday. The doctor said that he thinks that it won't affect my bloods and that it is quite a common thing to happen whilst on chemo. I don't feel very reassured...

  • Hi , I had similar, it certainly went on longer than it had before the chemo, I also had really bad stomach cramps which I haven’t had for years. It did stop eventually though. What a nightmare eh! As if we haven’t got enough going on!! Good luck with chemo on Wednesday, I’ll literally be with you all the way , I’m in at 2.30 xxx

That's reassuring.. I feel like it's never going to end!!! Yep, good luck Wednesday to you too! As an aside, has your hair started going yet? Mine hasn't yet but I'm expecting it any day now...

  • No mine is still there, I used the cold cap but not sure how well it will work! I have noticed that I shaved my legs a few days ago and they haven’t grown back like they usually do, so I think the hair growth has stopped . I was scared to wash my hair today but I did and no more than usual came out so fingers crossed xx

  • Hi

I experienced the same during my third cycle of FEC. It lasted just over a week and more heavy than usual. I called the nurse and she said this was normal as the chemo messes with your hormones. I carried on with my monthly cycle through FEC it was only when I started the Docetaxol that my periods stopped. Had my last cycle two weeks ago wondering if and when my period will return!

Oh good it didn't affect your blood count? I was worried it would affect whether I can have chemo Wednesday but I think it will be fine. Thanks!!

  • I thought it might do but every thing was fine for my next cycle which went ahead as planned :)
