Hi was told I had breast cancer on the 16th sept 2019

Heart echo appointment through

Seeing chemo Dr on the 30th September

CT scan not till 3 rd Oct

But I have no start date for chemo

Had a second lymph nodes biopsy yesterday

Do you think there waiting for all results to come back first

Before starting me on chemo?

  • Hi Gayle, Sorry to hear your news! I had biopsies etc done on 28 August and properly diagnosed on 2nd September. Got my CT scan yesterday and seeing Consultant on Friday where a decision will be made as to whether I have an MRI scan on Monday. I will then meet surgeon on 7th October. I was told they have to have all the information before they decide on a treatment plan. Hope that helps? x

Hi Gayle, so sorry you find yourself here, my time scale was pretty quick, one stop breast clinic on the 10th May, some results back a week later (17th) which were enough to have surgery on the 22nd May.

Started chemo ( ec & t) a month later on 26th June but I didn’t have any ct, mri scans or any other type of scan nor ecg’s even though I had nodes involved so there was no waiting around for those results. So to answer your question they did have all the info they wanted before I started chemo, even if it was a lot less than most people.

to be truthful I would have liked to have had a scan of some type just to check there was nothing anywhere else.

But we are where we are

I was under the impression that if you're lymph nodes are affected then they offer a c.t scan.

They don't know if mine are but I'm getting a lot pain and limited movement in my armPersevere

Mind you I do have the aggressive type which can spread so that's prob why I'm having a c.t scan.

  • They found it in one of my lymph nodes too so I assume that’s why I have had to wait for the CT scan before they proceed with any treatment.

    Hello everyone,

I have been diagnosed with BC, I first felt the lump in the shower on 5th August, saw the doc on 6th Aug, referred to breast clinic on 19th August, where mammogram, scan and biopsy's were taken.  Then I had a letter for appointment to see consultant surgeon on 29th August, were diagnosis was confirmed.  He referred me to an oncologist for chemo before surgery, I then had a barrage of scans and MRI's done, my last was yesterday. In between these tests I saw the oncologist who explained the chemo plan to me.

My call for my first chemo appointment came on Monday 23rd September, from the chemo administrator, telling me to report to my local chemo unit on 26th September to meet the team in charge of delivering my chemo, and a first appointment was given of 3rd October for my first chemo cycle, the administrator explained that when I meet the chemo nursing team tomorrow I will be given a booklet itemising all my chemo appointments in.

I know that your journey is different from mine, if your worried phone your specialist nurse that has been assigned to you to chase and ask questions, it never hurts.

The waiting is the worst part, you can almost feel the seconds of the day ticking away in your head, have faith, they have not forgotten you, when the call comes, as mine did Monday I though "no!!! already!!"

Remember never be afraid to call them, never be afraid to ask a question, just remember the golden rule, you get more out of everyone if you stay calm and be polite.

Who knows? Mine is micro papillary which is aggressive in that it likes to spread quickly. In 3/4 lymph nodes too but not enough to warrant a scan although it does qualify for chemo further surgery and radiotherapy.

  • Hi Did you not have a heart scan before starting chemo? I thought that it was routine to do a baseline scan so that they can then see any changes caused by chemo?

Hi no I didn’t, just had my pulse taken! I didn’t even realise it could affect your heart until I read it on here.

  • You normally have an ecg for your heart prior to chemo, not a heart scan as standard as far as I am aware

    staying positive . Helen x
