following a breast reduction and notgetting margins I am now considering my options for the mastectomy. I am on blood thinning medication post the last surgery due to quite severe family history of blood clots ( mother father brother ) so although the tummy diep was offered I am leaning towards an implant . Are there many if you out there that had an implant and can shed any positive thoughts about it .. I will loose my nipple so I don’t know yet if reconstruction is possible with an implant .. I can ask my surgeon next week but am also curious to think a lot about implants and the options with them ..
I had a skin sparing mx with implant around 18 months ago, nipple could not be saved.
The boob is a bit smaller than my other one with a bit of a flat area but in a bra you don’t know or notice. I’ve thought about lipo modelling but suspect I will stay as I am. I’m happy that I’ve still got a decent cleavage so low-ish cut tops still look ok.
Post op recovery is maybe a bit slower than a straightforward mx as it’s a longer op, but again the main thing is listening to your body but do the recommended exercises religiously.
Hope this helps a bit?

I had a single mx, with immediate reconstruction with an implant. I asked to keep my nipple - this was biopsied at the time and if anything had been found I would have had it removed. Boob looks good but it is quite a bit smaller than my good boob. I wear an insert in my bra if I’m going out but most of the time I don’t bother - I wouldn’t wear low cut or really fitted clothing but that’s just me. Most people wouldn’t even notice that I’m not even. X
I can’t keep my nipple as it won’t survive the two surgeries I am told .. it had work done in it for the reduction so I am gutted about that .. I was expecting them to get good margins and they thought they had .. such a roller coaster .. I suppose as this week goes on I will have a clearer set of questions for the surgeon .. but I also have some imode results to come back so lots of unknowns
I had 2 WLE before the mx and didn’t get enough margins which I why I needed the mx. It’s so stressful waiting on results all the time. I knew I didn’t want to be flat though so implant was the easiest option x
HI ,
I had mx last October, non sparing and whilst it does look a little strange at first you soon get use to the ‘new you’. Obviously it can be very upsetting so you may need someone to talk to.
I am aware that there are ‘nipples’ you can stick on. Maybe something to look into, ask your breast nurse about it.
Wishing you all the best x
Yes .. I have an appointment at a haven place . I think I am still in shock as I was going down the journey of getting used to my new breast reduction and deciding it looked quite good to be told it has to go .. felt like the carpet pulled .. and was unexpected .. I had thought about 85% chance reduction had worked thinking about all they had said
Hi Annie,
to be honest I wear slightly padded bras so am not bothered about the lack of a nipple.
But I think you can get a prosthesis if it bothers you
