Hello lovely people, and Welcome to the September Chemotherapy Chat! I cant believe its September already!
This thread is for all of you soldiers, going through chemotherapy to take a look at, ask questions, answer questions and be there for one another in a way only you guys know how.
If you want to find this post quickly, you can hit the 'Save In My Favourites' button.
For all of those of you going through chemotherapy, you are superstars. You are amazing, and you are fighting each and every day, you are my heroes. If you need any extra tips, our Chemo Tips Page is something you may find very helpful, and something that you may find you would like to share with others who are also going through chemo. One top tip, ask about parking at the hospital you are being treated at; for some Cancer patients parking is either free or discounted (big discount!) So it's worth asking about.
To get a sense of how the thread works, here is a link to the August chat which will be being locked from replies soon, but have a read anyway if you'd like to.
Remember, you're never alone, you have us! And, just try to focus on what your chemotherapy is doing. Its hopefully kicking your cancers butt.
I hope you are coping with me doing these! And I hope all of you are doing as well as you can do while going through this tough part of your journies.
Happy September Everyone,
Lots of love, hugs, light and healing to each and every one of you.

Thanks Margaret,
My optician said I should put in eye drops regularly from beginning of treatment. I have bad eyesight and a bit worried the treatment may affect them. So far not!
Seems to be my lips that have been affected first and before this never used a lip salve. So I have been creaming and moisturising my lips and face and rinsing my mouth with mouthwash. What a faff !
Good you managed a break to Cumbria and hope your lovely new wig is comfortable.
Jojodot X
Hi Babs,
Any non preservative eyedrops. I know there are so many to choose from. In the end I explained to the pharmacist I was starting chemo and he gave me something appropriate - Hypromellose from Medico. Healthcare so hope it’s doing its job. My optician recommended JL eye drops but I couldn’t find them anywhere..
I was scared about starting treatment too but to be honest I felt I had such a long wait to get things started it almost came as a relief. I found all the professionals I met to be very caring and understanding and have faith things will do their job.
Surprisingly side effects are small - definitely more tired in a strange sort of way. I just don’t feel quite right but have been out and about ok. And taking it easy in between. Only on day 3 though !!!
All the best for Thursday Babs,
Jojodot X
Lol Jojodot
Ive just said this morning it takes me longer on morning now with new beauty routine ...Soft tooth brush ( little princess very cute ) mouthwash ,oral gel for the one persistent ulcer , tea tree facIal water wipes ,Vaseline for lips , Nivea to moisturise, nail strengther. Then gently run finger over hair .
As yet I'm not wearing new wig as hair still here . It certainly felt comfy and was easy to put on . I did learn one thing eyebrow to hairline is four fingers..who knew lol
Have enjoyed Cumbria love the place but needed the confidence because no A&E So would have to travel back over Pennines only takes 1 1/4 hours but road can close due to accidents quite often . Would then have to go to Carlisle shorter journey but would rather be at home hospital if I did have to go in .

Hi
Yes it is scary but once you start it usually not as bad as you imagine to get the treatment I'm day 19 from first EC .
Like Jojodot I've been lucky to have minimal SE . I use Boots dry eye drops ,you're doing right in prepping up its far easier to try to minimise mouth ulcers etc .I also use a nail strengthen cream and protective polish . On first page of Sept chemo thread there is a link with a lot of hints for chemo .there are some great ideas .
If you need to get a thermometer Lidl had a good one for forehead or ear readings
Ive ended up with a little bag I call my chemo bag lol

Hi, just a wee check in. Have had a a bit of nausea and my usual jelly legs since 2nd Pax on Tuesday. Had a lovely overnight visit from my daughter and new grandaughter on Thursday....was feeling shaky and had a nosebleed which spoiled it a bit but the Nana smiles were so precious.
It's been a beautiful day here and I've had a total pity party to myself wanting to be out in the sunshine, on my own, in my car, with my dogs...instead of still being frightened to leave the house on my own and sitting in my pyjamas eating Ritz crackers!!
On the subject of eye dryness and irritation I mentioned before I use Carbomer eye gel...it's lovely and soothing x
