Hi all
I've just got my application form for my Moving Forward course. I've a choice of January 2020 or March 2020. ?????
Such forward planning confirms my prognosis. Sorry did I write that down!
Has anyone been on it? What did you think?
Thanks for input.
Hi Silverberg welcome to the forum.
I know that they run the course in my locla area and whilst I havent been on it myself but I know lots of folks who have and they have gained enormous benefits and support from being part of the course.
Hope thats of some use if maybe not that much, about the actual course but maybe someone else maybe could tell you more.
Sending very best wishes for now. xxx
Hi Silverberg ,
0n my review / result appointment after being told mastectomy successfull no cancer present quickly followed by ... grade 3 Her2 positive chemo and herceptin treatment to follow . The BC nurse said she was concerned that I was shutting down feelings . I then explained that is how I deal in meeting but not to worry I'll have hysterics later .She followed up by inviting me to one of these courses for November this year ,not sure how I feel about going . I'll still be on chemo and it does describe the course as a follow up to treatment .
I will post if I attend .
Hi Silverberg,
I attended a course called Living Well After Cancer Treatment has ended, it was a considerable help to me. There were 6 others on the course, unfortunately no one with breast cancer but it helped to listen to how others had dealt with the diagnosis and treatments and the impact of the diagnosis on them and their families. I had not had a good relationship with my BC Nurse she made me feel like I was the only one who had struggled with the diagnosis and this had added to my anxieties. Other than this site and members which had been so supportive, I felt so alone and didn't feel I could talk openly other than to family members and a couple of friends, when I went along to the group it was good because other people understood, because they'd been there and come out the other side to a degree and I began to feel as though the emotional rollercoaster that I'd been on for months was not out of the ordinary, under the circumstances. The staff were also very supportive and could redirect to Psychological Services if anyone needed further input.
I'd say go for it!
Best Wishes.
Hi Silverberg,
I’ve been expecting to get an invite for this course, but I haven’t heard from my BC nurse since before my lumpectomy - that was October, I’ve had chemotherapy and radiotherapy since (finished in May). I left a message for her after radiotherapy, but I haven’t heard back. I’m still having herceptin, but I’ve been looking into starting back at work once my children go back to school in September. I think it would be good to do the course before I start back.
Have you finished all of your treatments?
Thanks,
Sarah.
Hi Sarah
I'm sorry I've just spotted this.
The fact that you haven't heard from your BC nurse since before surgery and that's nearly a year is frankly appalling. What sort of care is that? I cannot believe you've had so much treatment and you haven't had a phone call.
I'm only having radiotherapy like last time but I haven't started yet. I'm waiting for a phone call for the CT scan. Cancer was on the left side, then I have to be measured up.
I get the impression these courses are not run very often if my first opportunity was to be 2020. To be honest I declined the offer. I managed last time, with a bit of help from the Haven in Leeds. This time I know what to expect, and so do my family.
As I've said before, I'm a bolshi cow at times and I think I might have been on the phone before now. Perhaps you've been a little too patient waiting for a response.
Please feel free to borrow some bolshi .and find out when the next course is to be run. I've thrown all the paper work or I would have given you the number. I do remember reading it though. Apparently the course is part of your treatment so you are entitled to have time off to attend.
Good luck I hope you get it sorted.
Sarah, don’t worry you can book yourself on by going to the breast cancer care site, it’s easy and if you want you can always ring them.
I don’t even have a bc nurse so I have to sort stuff out myself. I was told I couldn’t go on a look good feel better course at my nearerst hospital as I wasn’t being treated there, the place where I am being treated doesn’t run them and I thought that was unfair so I got in touch with lgfb via the website, lo and behold, I’m now on the waiting list for November. I really don’t think I’ll get on the course as the bc nurses there will ensure their clients get on it, but it won’t be for lack of trying!
Thank you Silverberg and ruthie2. I will try to get it booked. I’ve heard that it’s worth attending.
Thanks,
Sarah.
Hi all
Ive been on a Moving Forward course. I also booked myself on it as my BCN was off sick at the time. It was easy to find when the course in my area was on and to book it through the Breast Cancer Care site. Your BCN will book you on also. I found the course worthwhile and it was beneficial meeting others who had been through BC diagnosis ... we could all relate. The volunteers , facilitator were good as were those professionals participating in the programme. I still meet up with others who attended on a regular basis.
