How is everyone coping with their diagnosis?
I have grade 1 invasive ductal breast cancer I’m having surgery on Monday 12 August to remove it along with a few lymph nodes. It’s Oestrogen positive.
My gp says I’ve gone into ‘fight’ mode as I feel detached from it. It’s almost as if it’s happening to someone else.
My Mum has just completed chemo & radio as she was diagnosed last year with Breast Cancer.
She fell apart when she was told couldn’t cope with it & I do understand everyone copes differently. She completely buried her head in the sand didn’t want to know anything, even talked about not having chemo as didn’t want to lose her hair!
Am I possibly putting a brave face on after seeing how she coped? I have to fight I’ve got 3 wonderful children 25, 23 & 19 as well as a very supportive husband. I do not want to put my worries on top of how they’re already feeling, it’s so very frustrating.
Sorry if I’ve rambled on a bit it felt good to voice how I’m feeling.
Big squishy hugs to you all
Hi Cuppacoffee, and welcome to the forum.
Everyone reacts to their diagnosis differently, there's no right or wrong way, it's a personal thing. It's also a bit odd a roller coaster ride for many of us, so be prepared to sometimes feel different to now.
I don't know all the details of your cancer (size of it, it's it also HER2+?, is our in ther nodes etc.), but grade 1 cancers are slow growing and have an excellent prognosis, usually curable. If it's ER+ you'll most likely have tablets to take for 5-10 years after treatment is finished, but how long would depend on what your oncologis thinks once they have the full details, which they won't have until after the pathologist gives them the results from your surgery. If your mum also had breast cancer are they testing you for a genetic link?
Good luck on Monday:) x
Thank you so much Londonmumof2
I am going to mention genetic link again as my great grand mother also had breast cancer & I'd like to know if my 19 year old daughter would need examined.
I haven't been advised of size, it is oestrogen positive, Her2 negative.
Many thanks for taking the time to reply xo
