Hello lovely people, and Welcome to the August's Chemotherapy Chat!

This thread is for all of you soldiers, going through chemotherapy to take a look at, ask questions, answer questions and be there for one another in a way only you guys know how.

If you want to find this post quickly, you can hit the 'Save In My Favourites' button.

For all of those of you going through chemotherapy, you are superstars. You are amazing, and you are fighting each and every day, you are my heroes. If you need any extra tips, our Chemo Tips Page is something you may find very helpful, and something that you may find you would like to share with others who are also going through chemo. One top tip, ask about parking at the hospital you are being treated at; for some Cancer patients parking is either free or discounted (big discount!) So it's worth asking about.

To get a sense of how the thread works, here is a link to July's chat which will be being locked from replies soon, but have a read anyway if you'd like to.

Remember, you're never alone, you have us! And, just try to focus on what your chemotherapy is doing. Its hopefully kicking your cancers butt.

I hope you are coping with me doing these! And I hope all of you are doing as well as you can do while going through this tough part of your journies.

Happy August Everyone,

Lots of love, hugs, light and healing to each and every one of you.

Alex xxx

    Hi everyone

Really sorry but I have totally lost track of all the postings this week - seems to have gone bonkers. Good to see a mix of good news regarding treatment outcomes and loads on hair loss :-)

I had my first weekly paclitaxel dose today, just 11 to go! Unless allergic reactions can be well delayed I would seem to be in the clear for that Grinning. Just waiting now to see what side effects hit when and whether it is going to more cumulative effects given the smaller weekly doses.

Hugs to all who need it.

    Hi

Glad you enjoyed your Look Good Feel Better session - I had great fun at mine and the goody bag is great isn't it :-)

  • Thanks, yes, the amount and quality was a real surprise! x

Good some of you feel pampered by the Look Good Feel Better sessions. None of these in my area. I live in the countryside in Ireland. But I never used Make Up anyway.

Londonmum: Carboplatin can affect hearing, and as I'm anyway hearing impaired, they check it.

Aaw guys thanks for the lovely comments, it still surprises me when I look in the mirror!

Hope - wishing you all the best for the rest of your treatment too, I’m moving onto Docetaxel next week eeek!

Northerner- good luck today I’m sure it will be fine and you’ll be wondering what all the worrying was about! And the dont you look well always annoys me too, I know they mean well but bloody hell I feel I have to apologise for not being all poorly and wilting, and god forbid I should actually feel ok!

Londonmum - wow that sounds great! I was told I couldn’t book myself into the one at my local hospital as I’m not being treated there, but I made a fuss and I’m now on the waiting list - I’m not holding my breath!

dreierlei- hope you sort the tinnitus out, I know what you mean about not a lot being  in your area, there’s very little where I am and what there is I can’t access! However I did find out that Boots have Macmillan beauticians at no7 who can help with make overs etc I don’t think that you’ll get a goody bag but maybe someone else knows?? Might be worth a visit?

hope everyone else is doing well, and that the chemo is kind to you all Two heartsTwo heartsTwo hearts

Morning everyone, lots to catch up on this morning. Didn't go back to bed after letting the dogs out this morning as have my pre chemo bloods at 10.....and going to try to stop this going back to bed till lunchtime nonsense as I feel it's probably not doing me any good....the theory in my head was that it makes the days shorter and easier to cope with when I can't get out or drive...as soon as I leave the house I start shaking and having palpitations. A lady came out to speak to me from 'Improving the cancer journey' and the main thing that is affecting me is my loss of independence as my fear of fainting again has taken over my life...I never ever think or worry about the fact I have cancer!....but apparently some people transfer their focus onto something else.

So bloods today, gp tomorrow and first Paclitaxel on Friday...and luckily my friend can give me a lift to all these appointments.

On a positive note....as I'm always moaning these days...I stood at my bedroom window yesterday and watched a pod of dolphins heading past my house, a few of them jumping...that cheered me up :)

Have a good day everyone x

  • Hi Northerner,

That’s brilliant news - I was thinking of you this morning, and am so glad it went well.   Take it easy, and have as many naps as you like!
