Hi my name is Maria I am 51 I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer in my right breast it has has also spread to my lymph nodes to say I am scared is an understatement today I see my consultant to discuss my options for treatment and also scans to see if it has spread anywhere else I have no energy and recurrent chest infections praying it hasn’t spread to my lungs any advice greatly appreciated x

  • Hi Maria, and welcome. We are a very friendly and supportive group who are all going through this with different stories, knowledge and diagnosis, but with a common understanding of how it feels....so vent away!

Good luck with your appointment today. The scariest part is now, when you are coming to terms with the diagnosis and they are trying to find out more about the cancer so that they can treat you properly  I certainly found the two weeks between the result of my surgery (where they realised that a node was affected), and the results of the CT and bone scans the absolute scariest time in the whole process so far, and I've also had a mastectomy,  level III clearance (all my lymph nodes removed), and my first round of chemo.

Today you will probably see your surgeon (you'll meet your oncologist later) and a specialist Macmillan or specialist breast nurse who will talk you through things. Let us know how your appointment goes today. xx

    Hi

    Have a welcome hug

Once you have your treatment plan you feel more in control. Right now everything is s huge 'shock' and although you may feel you 'should be doing something' all you can do is wait.

Ironically there will be times when everything seems to be happening so fast without time to get your head around it and other times when it's all about the waiting...waiting for appointments, for results, for reports, for meetings etc.

But you have all the lovely folk here for advice, support, to listen to how you feel, lend a shoulder, vent and remember no fear or question is silly.

Oh and if you are awake in the night, the Awake thread is where you will find other non sleepers for all the above and have a silly smile if appropriate.

    Take care

    Hi Londonmumof2,

I'm seeing my surgeon tomorrow, had mastectomy 5 weeks ago and all nodes removed 6 days ago, to find out if I need chemo. One node had cancer cells after my mastectomy, but don't know if there's more yet. Worried about everything really. Sounds like we've had a similar experience. Hope chemo went ok for you. Scares me a lot. Xx
