    Hi

Just a quick welcome... You have come to the right place for support, advice, a place to ask questions, voice worries and fears, have a rant, get a shoulder or hug and where appropriate a silly smile.

    Take care

I too was very lucky to have a tiny tumour picked up on a routine mammogram.  I had a wide local incision followed by radiotherapy and aromatase inhibitor medication.  I had no problems and three years later I am fine.  The diagnosis comes as a shock but you will cope.  My best wishes to you.

  • Hi Heather-g my story on profile

Hi Northerner, I have just read your story your profile - I am in a very similar situation to you. Glad to hear you are recovering well and wish you all of the best.

I hope you mind my asking but my surgery is on Monday, do you have any advice as I am very nervous and don’t know what to expect.

    Thank you very much x

  • Hi Heather-g

really sorry but I missed your message ! So sorry if this feels a bit late to help

As you will have read I had very little time to dwell on upcoming op . I did take the attitude that I needed to get rid of cancer more than I needed boob ....this did help me mentally! I was lucky that 2 other ladies in my room had the same op . We coped with humour ( not withstanding a few tears )

It was good to talk to each other and because we were all in for bout 5 nights .. they didn't need the beds ! We even shared scars . We gave kept in touch .

What I will say is concentrate on one step at a time ...if you need to cry do so . You have arrived at one of the best places to vent all the feelings you are going thru . There will always be someone here to listen and understand .

Had my op on the 4th .. more discomfort than pain in wound . I personally found drain area uncomfortable and at times painful just ask for and take drugs ..don't be brave ! Healing well got used to wearing Freda (softie boob) getting fitting for silicone next week perhaps call her Clarissa . Up til now nobody can tell difference and I'm not small cup .

Im getting ready to go see oncologist  at 12pm ..don't mind admitting sh****g myself . Even though I know not happening today don't want to know really .

Again sorry for delay in response hope all go well today

    keep in touch

Hi Margaret so pleased you are doing well. It is good to ladies who have been in similar position. I had my surgery 48 hours ago. I must admit I was very tearful , anxious and upset to have to lose a breast, as well having to go through the surgery. But hey....... I’m home. I feel absolutely overwhelmed that I feel as well as I do. All that worrying for the last 6 weeks ?? What for ? Saw my Breast Nurse before I left hospital. She gave a “ softie” to put in my bra: if I wanted to.. i’m so relieved it’s all over . Now the healing process begins.

Just want to thank my amazing Surgeon, Doctors and Nurses for their dedication and wonderful care from our  priceless N H S   Xx Heart

  • Hi Heather -g

so glad your surgery is over and you feel so well Blush I was lucky in a way that I didn't have a long wait for surgery . So I had no time really to get too stressed .. cried a lot at first then made decision on op for two days time and stopped crying .

That doesn't mean they haven't been back .. with me I can't stand the waiting and not knowing what is going to happen . Once I reach the appointment I'm calm ..well on the outside at least .

When I was told HER2-positive and would need chemo etc . The BCN was concerned that I took It well ..she asked if I needed to see psychologist, then my weird sense of humour kicked in with most probably but it won't be anything to do with cancer lol

Ive found the softie really good . I was lucky to get mine prior to op so got measured and bought one bra from m&s and a soft sports type from Asda . They are so good I wore it to leave the hospital and was comfortable both physical and mentally.

Nobody can tell the difference between me and Freda Rolling eyes

Make sure you rest up and don't expect miracles..you feel a lot better than you expected ,I think most of us do ..just don't forget you have had surgery . I keep having to remind myself what a short space of time its been since what my surgeon described as major .

Most importantly keep posting ,ask questions, rant ,moan and laugh whatever you feel the need to do .

ive updated my profile with treatment plan and have no doubt tears will return on or around the 18th .like you I have a great nhs team supporting me all the way .

Plus new friends on here who understand more than anyone else can .
