Hi, can anybody advise on a good mastectomy bra fitter/retailer?

  • Hi

I had my mastectomy two weeks ago and purchased bra prior to op to use with softies . Decision  of op on the Tues. op on Thurs . I went to M&S .

obviously I wasn't in best frame of mind but felt I slightly better than I might be after op .

cant say I'm wildly impressed with fit but it difficult because of swelling so if you are purchasing close to op I would recommend buying some bra expanders . I'm finding I can wear it all day but do expand it if I start to swell around wound. I also got some mastectomy sport style from Asda direct . Once things have settled and I get fitted for prosthetic I will get measured again at an independent I think .My BC nurse has some catalogues from specialist company so worth asking about .

  • Been there, looked around....retail and more specialist....still haven’t found anything that I love. I bought 2 bras from an independent retailer together with my prosthesis....they've done a job but not very comfortable and a bit naff looking. I have so far failed to find something remotely nice....that fitted and did its job. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not a frilly, gorgeous underwear sort of girl....just looking for something remotely nice and fits...and isn’t a naff flesh coloured....would appreciate any information of other retailers....

  •    i would suggest   amoena  or nicola jane     reasonable prices when the sale is on   M and S range  is also not naff flesh coloured and comfy

  • Try Asda ... they are cheap and comfy...do the job. Can only be bought online. I’ve a bra from woman zone which I got the same time as silicone foob at hospital and that’s ok. I’ve also got an Amoena bra but my foob doesn’t really fit it that well but the Amoena softie I got post op does. Don’t really know why I kept that bra but it does fit nicely against chest and there’s no gapping. My foob fits and looks fine in the Asda bras. It’s a bit trial and error but I’m finding that me and my foob prefer certain styles of bra and  I don’t need to spend a fortune. Certainly try the more expensive bras when in a sale but some styles are about the same price as M&S bras which I find are not a good fit.

Happy bra hunting ...I’m still looking for my perfect bra.

  • Hiya,

I agree with the Asda ones, good value and look nice, a bigger choice online.I also found that Peacocks do nice soft (not underwired) bras that I find really comfortable. I did get a bra from M and S, but it was not very flattering.

  •  I’ve got a couple of bralettes from Peacocks which I use with KK. Nice and comfy.  Agree about M&S bras. I’ve not looked in for over a year so don’t know if they’ve improved any.
