Hello i think am working myself in bit of a state. I had a mammogram, ultrasound and  3 biopsies all done on the same day on Tuesday and was given an appointment to see the cancer team and my Macmillan nurse next Wednesday morning before i had the biopsy results. I was so shocked i didn't even ask if they could detect that it was cancer? Can this be so quick, and will i require treatment straight away or have more tests done. Am finding it hard to get my head round it all as its happened so quickly.

TIA

hi they give u a results appt the same day they do the biopsy u see the consultant and macmillan nurse no matter what the results are, they can’t tell if the biopsy is cancerous until the results are back from the lab which takes a week so they make u a results appt for the following week , it’s the normal process so try not to worry , hope this helps

    Hello

Can i first welcome you to the community none of us want to be members of but as you will soon see the best community to be in under the circumstances.

It is understandable that you are in a state, we've all felt like you're feeling so don't feel like its something you shouldn't be feeling. Every hospital is different but if they have made you an appointment for next Wednesday i'm sure they will have your results then. This doesn't mean the results will be cancer, a Macmillan nurse will be there to support you whatever the result.

As for treatment it all depends on the outcome of your results, hopefully if all clear they will just send you off home. If it is something else i would have thought they will have an idea of what treatment they will offer you. When i was diagnosed i saw the oncologist the following day to talk through my treatment plan.

Do you have a phone number for the breast care clinic, or was you given the number for the breast care nurses? If you was give them a ring and ask them anything you need to know., they may not be able to answer your questions as they may not have the answers but they will do what ever they can to help reassure you.

If you think it will help talking to someone the Macmillan phone line is open 8am-8pm 7 days a week, 0808 808 00 00 the call is free.

In the mean time keep talking to us, Good Luck and let us know how you get on.

Hello TheScriptFan this is a great and useful community site. Thank you for your advice, yes i was given the Macmillan support number and the breast nurse is getting in touch with me.

  • Hi

I was told at my initial appointment that it was cancer and that I would be coming back for my treatment plan , not a diagnosis, so they can sometimes tell just from looking - what I didn’t understand was that there are many different types of breast cancer , all with different treatments and diagnosis - you will be in a state of shock at the moment and your mind will be working overtime, there is a breastcancer care helpline you can call and chat to someone , I’d tou google them you will find it.

best wishes for your next step , and this forum is a great place to find information, support and  help

    Best wishes
