Hi so went this morning for the vacuum biopsy. (Had wide core biopsy 2 weeks previous)Getting into position was really uncomfortable i was so tense! Scared to relax incase fell off the bed! Anyways she explained what she was going to do put the local in and started procedure, i could feel the needle and went all fuzzy i said i can still feel it so she stopped and inserted more local i just said just keep going but she wouldnt until i was pain free. Feel bit of a wimp as i am normally fine with needles etc. She said needs do it again and then inserted the piece of “glitter” so now for the 8 day wait til result day:(

has anyone had a negative biopsy result then a vacuum biospy to double check surrounding tissue im so scared at the minute.

  • Hi Lenaloo,

sorry you’re going through all this worry...in my case the vacuum procedure was done to remove ‘calcium deposits’

These are small dots that can show up on a mammogram, and can potentially turn cancerous.

The ‘sewing machine’ type biopsy removed a whole bunch of these successfully so it was just a test but actually got rid of them.

i think they do this is because they are hard to spot during surgery so they do it under ultrasound.

it is all very worrying, but it’s amazing how quickly you get used to being a patient.

As well as these calcifications, I had a small tumour in the same breast, which was Her2 positive, therefore needing chemo and radiotherapy ,after the wide local incision op.

That was in 2017 and I’ve just had my second clear yearly mammogram.

It sounds like they’re just making doubly sure that there’s nothing microscopic going on.

i will look out my old diary in case you want to ask anything else.

This site will help and support you, try not to worry too much, they’ve got loads of treatments now, take care and all the best
