Hi all. Had 2nd lot of FEC on Monday and as usual wide awake on Wed at 5am. Pattern seems to be forming here. I was really lucky last time and had no real side effects, apart from a sore mouth so a bit of a shock to be quite poorly this time. Had chemo went for carvery, came home all good then got the biggest hangover he’s and the worst nausea ever. I wasn’t actually sick but did heave a few times. Needless to say I raised the anti sickness I was given last time. I will say I kept burping and all I could taste was beef and horseradish sauce so I have totally ruined my fave meal, gutted. Lesson learned only bland food in chemo day. Although suffered, I went to bed early and woke feeling much better and actually planning on going to work today, so I’m happy to take that. I shaved my head on Sunday as I was fed up with turning over in bed and getting a face full of furry pillow. It looks and feels so much better, sensitivity went within 15 min, marvellous. I would post a pic but not figured out how to do that yet.
I have been getting quite dry skin on my face and have started using body shop vitamin E sink in moisture sleeping mask and I find it really good. Cream on your face at night and wake up lovely and soft. Well worth it if your suffering and it won’t break the bank.
Hope things are going well for everyone else.
Hope you feel better today......I know from experience that nausea when you can't be sick( or have an empty stomach) is a really unpleasant situation. Are you sure though you should be considering work today? I expect it makes you feel in control and ' normal' but chemo drugs are extremely strong. If you were ill yesterday perhaps you should give it another day to regain your strength. Also if you are going to mix with lots of people remember you are going to be more susceptible to infections as your defensive cells disappear.......be careful. You are allowed to give yourself time to recuperate.........I was always pleased I had taken early retirement before I was diagnosed and never had to make that decision of whether to work. Unfortunately each dose can get progressively worse....so I would advise you to increase the anti sickness in advance of your next chemo session. Also as you said, don't eat too much on day 1. My unit also advised using the mouth wash from day 1, with increased washes whenever the mouth tingled. I did this for the entire period and whether it was coincidence or not, I never had a sore mouth. I couldn't control the nausea which was severe ( at least a week and on some days I was sick if I moved my head on the pillow) but I did save my mouth from ulcers and nails from blackening using regular evo nail by following the advice.
I wish you well. A third through now......It will go quickly.......And do take care of yourself.....
Love Karen
Thanks Karen. I have seen a lot of posts I. Ebona so will give it a try. I must say when I mentioned a sore mount in Mon the on call Dr gave me a bag full of stuff, nystatin drops to take every day, mouth spray, difflam spray and 2 lots of mouth wash so can’t complain about care, so fingers crossed I will be sore mouth free. I did a few jobs in the morning yesterday and spent the rest of the day in bed so feel quite well but I’m only going into work for the afternoon. Unfortunately I only have 11 weeks of paid sick leave left so trying to work when I can. I have 6 more chemo sessions , then surgery then radiotherapy so going to need sick days later on. Obviously I will put my health first but financial it is worrying. Plus when I’m at work I’m more tat a cancer patient which helps my positivity.
I understand how worrying the financial side of things must be......have you chatted to the financial advice helpers on Macmillan? I expect you have....I'm sue you're being sensible about when you work but don't let the ' only 11 weeks' left influence when you go in. Get yourself better.......That's the most important thing at the moment......
Hope you have an easy afternoon and it boosts your moral being there.
Love Karen
