I had my chemotherapy FEC T last Friday I cannot Taste any food or drink any advice grateful welcome

many thanks

  • Mmmm I had the same problem! It does come back! I used to add a dose of chilli to savoury stuff, sweet things tend to be tastier but obviously you probably don’t want to be stuffing yourself with doughnuts! I used to keep mango and pineapple chunks in the freezer - loved those! Tesco do bags in their freezer aisle. Ice lollies, maybe? I also found that water tasted salty....just weird so had loads of squashes to add...

i found my taste buds varied throughout treatment sometimes I could taste things then the next day they tasted like cardboard....sorry!

  • Hi

i found tomato soup always tasted ok . Plus baked beans or baked beans with sausages were ok too. One time I fancied chicken and sweet corn soup followed by banana fritter and syrup from our local Chinese and it tasted great - had it every night for a week then taste buds changed again !!! So what tasted yummy one week can taste foul the next !! I found a small potion of curry and rice always tasted nice . I think that’s the secret - small portion , tomato based and a wee bit spice - but then again we are all different . I used to try something and if it tasted yucky I would have tears running down my cheeks - totally felt sorry for myself - but we are allowed . My hubby would buy inexpensive ready meals from freezer aisle and I would try it and if no use , he just binned it but if yummy he would cook me similar fresh the next day - trial and error .

Keep your chin up , once chemo finished your taste buds will come back ( with it the lost weight lol ) Joy

    love
