Hi everyone!

im new to this

im 51 and had a recall bk on Thursday after a routine mammogram.  The dr said would like to do an ultrasound of an area that was causing her concern? She took around 5-6 biopsy's and put a metal marker in she said just incase i needed any further treatment? I have to go bk on Thursday for results.

I know I shouldn’t google things but its really hard not to. Has anyone else who has had this done been ok? Im reading that she wouldn’t of put the metal marker in if didnt think was really suspicious? She didnt say it looked like cancer just said and pointed to place on the screen saying this area here and wanted to just be doubly certain?

Im sick with worry and dont know how i can make it through till Thursday. Xx

  • Hello,

I'm sorry you find yourself in this worrying situation. This is the normal follow up procedure for anomalies on mammograms. It would be dishonest if I said ' Don't worry.....it won't be cancer' because only the analysis of the biopsy can show that. On this site, many people who have been anxiously awaiting results find they are benign but also many results are tumours which need treatment.

The most important thing in your present situation is to keep reminding yourself that whatever is there has been identified. If it is cancer.....it will be treated. The treatment may not be pleasant but many breast cancers respond well to treatment. My own bc was found on a mammogram. I had no idea. It was removed with a lumpectomy and hopefully the follow up treatments are preventing it's return. It is nearly four years since I was told the tumours were gone and I am still clear.

Obviously I hope your results return benign but be reassured, if they are not .....you have a good chance of surviving to old age with modern treatments. You have found this site. There will always be someone online to support you. Ask your questions.....someone will have shared your experience.....rant at the injustice.....cry if you need to. We have all been there( or will get to the same point) and will be here when you need someone.

    Good luck on Thursday

    Love Karen

Hi, the waiting is terrible isn't it. Just try to take each moment as it comes and really look after yourself.

Regarding the metal marker - I didn't have one of those so I can't comment. The only thing I can suggest is instead of googling, try phoning the Macmillan helpline, that way you can discuss it with a trained cancer nurse. if you're not keen on phoning there is an 'ask a nurse' section on this forum : https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_experiences/ask_the_expert/ask_a_nurse/

There is so much inaccurate or misleading information on the internet it could make the waiting even harder than it already is

Good luck on Thursday, I really do hope you have good news. In the meantime, hopefully, other ladies who know more about the metal marker will visit and give you more information

    Love Naid xx

  • I was in a similar position 4 years ago.  I had two areas of mice calcification biopsied- they took 6 samples.  There was a query over putting a marker in but doctor said no.  I had results a week later and one area benign other not.  4 years on at my annual mammogram they found suspicious area in my good boob.  They did a biopsy there and then and results 5 sets later and it was nothing of concern .  They repeated mammograms to be sure but all good.

Hope you get good results.  Either way it’s us know.  We are here to support you xxx

    Hi

They put a metal marker in me too. The thing was only visible on one direction of the mammograms and they used it to make sure they'd taken the biopsy from the right place.

While I was there I was chatting to someone else and shed had a marker put in to show they'd taken a biopsy and it was clear so they didn't check the same place again on next mammogram.

Only use Google for cheese scone recipes.

Waiting is tough but it has to be endured. Keep busy and time will pass.

    Hi there!

thanks for your reply. Had a little chuckle there at the cheese scone bit lol.

Sorry i know everyone has or is going through some kind of this awful “thing”. Its just been quite a shock to me and I’m the type pf person who just goes quiet and cant speak to people in person about it.  My husband isn’t talking about it either.

Hopefully Thursday will come quickly and i will know one way or the other.

    Lots of love xx

    Hi Lenaloo

My husband doesn't talk about it either! He talks about the RAC renewals and the fact I bought something else in the middle of the night. (He can't understand why I didn't save the t shirts with hidden support in them from last time.13 years ago) But I watched him cry when we watched the last episode of Band of Brothers and knew he was finding it tough too.

Today was one of those days when conversation is limited to " Do you want a drink?" Anything else is too complicated. I'm awake now cos he's snoring, which is a good sign.

We learnt a lot about each other last time. The main one being talking is hard but it has to be done.

Cheese scone recipe is the good food one. Best warm with a slab of outpacing and double the amount of cheese.

    Hugs

    Hi just an update

had results today after an awful long week!

Dr said no cancer detected in biopsy and then i sensed a BUT she wants to now do a vacuum biopsy to take away what she thinks could be scar tissue or something? Im waiting for a call or a letter to have this done within 2 weeks. So another wait for results back .

    Trying to be positive

    Hi

I've never heard about this but someone on here must have.

I'm back waiting too. I've had lumpectomy and lymph node biopsy, so that means a two wait for results.

How's your hubby, mine has perked up. Nursing me is something he can do. They are always happier when in control.

The fact that she's said no cancer has been found is a lot to be positive about.

    Take care
