AIs and acupuncture

Hi everyone. Haven't been around much recently but I thought you'd be interested to hear about my acupuncture experience.

Last oncologist visit in March, I was whingeing and moaning as usual about the SEs from Arimidex - bone pain, muscle pain, tendon and ligament pain. My onco suggested trying acupuncture. He said there's been some research done in the US and it works for about 40% of people. So, with some cynicism, I have given it a go.

I can happily report that I'm a complete convert. It's made an amazing difference. Hardly any aches or pains any more, unless I really overdo it. The pains I had in my hips has completely disappeared and my lower back is good most days. No more tendonitis in my hands. I can move much more freely and feel about 10 years younger.

Cheers

  • Oooooh, might need to investigate this via my GP!

  • Hello ,

You have been missed, lovely to hear from you. I will admit when I started to read your post, I was thinking it was going to say 'it was bad for us, that you'd had a side effect from it'......

How brilliant to read this, it is something that I am sure will be of interest to a lot of us, I know I am - and silly as it sounds, I never even gave this a thought when I have my 'trigger thumbs'!!

    Thank you for this Kacang.

    With love xx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Hi #Kacang

Great to hear that Acupuncture is helping!  Can I ask if you have hot flushes and if so did it help that SE at all? I had heard that it might but haven’t heard from anyone directly - I’m at the point of trying anything after 11 months!

     Thanks

    Clare

  • Thank you for your kind words I'd forgotten about trigger finger but I haven't had that since.

I did get hot flushes when I started arimidex (Jan 16). They were terrible at first but after about a year they slowed and then eventually stopped. I can't remember the last one. So I can't say if acupuncture would help. I do have heaps of sympathy for you though as it can be quite debilitating.

  • Hi

Glad to hear you got relief from the acupuncture. I can also heartily endorse it. I had a frozen shoulder that came on on my non-BC side around the time of my diagnosis (stress I think). Then the surgery side developed into frozen shoulder about 2 months after my treatment finished. Both treated very successfully with acupuncture. Had to pay privately though as NHS physio didn’t offer it.
