Hi All

I'm new to the on-line community and had my meeting with my surgeon earlier this week.  Unfortunately the margins from my lumpectomy were not clear so they have to operate again.  I'm already booked in for mid June - has anyone else had this and how did you find the experience?  I'm assuming it will be a much "nicer" operation as I'm not having lymph nodes removed this time, but I'm feeling really disappointed as my surgeon did such a lovely job on my boob and I was really happy with the results.

TIA

  • Hi Dils

Yes I did, I was unusual that I ended up with two further ops and then a mastectomy , but I was exceptional (not in a good way!) My surgeon did a great job with all three of my initial ops , and after my third I was at a charity ball the next night.

I was gutted that the WLEs failed, and at the time to have a mastectomy , and I didn’t get a choice in the end, but your own breast is far superior to any kind of reconstruction.

Good luck with the op,hopefully you will have a good result.

Thanks Jo, appreciate the info.  I'm hoping that this is it for operations.

  • Im in this team. Actually it took 3 ops to get what the surgeon wanted. And as he said to me

I am in the business of saving your life

I had gone for a melt down before op 3 refusing to agree unless I spoke to him

We all tend to think what’s happening and what the hell has gone wrong . But we should be thinking thank the Lord they found they’d not got the bleeping critters

Know that I am many months on from 3 ops and enjoying my 3rd week on holiday

So this time next year this could be you

can i first welcome you to the community no one wants to be a member of but its the best community ever under the circumstances.

Yep i'm in your gang, yes the second one was much easier without having lymph nodes removed. In fact i was home for tea. They used the same scar so no extra cuts.

Seems there's a few if us, and thats whats good about here, you realise its not just you and it helps some how.

Keep asking questions if you need to, or just come say hello. It helps to talk to people who get you xx

  • Hi

Yeah this same for me. After 2 surgeries with no clear margins, I was all set for Mastectomy after chemo. My surgeon however offered to do another re-excision and clear margins this time. I did get some lipofill at same time as there had been quite a bit of tissue removed by the third op.  All done with the same scar and I’m really happy with results. Surgeon did say might need some more lipofill once everything settles down and radiotherapy done.

    Good luck with everything.

Thanks Leolady56 - I am glad that they found that they haven't got it all, just needing more info.  Hopefully this time next year I will be on a beach in Australia (ok it will be winter but still)!

Wow - home for tea - I do hope so, hospital food isn't the best! ;-)

Thanks Mrs50,  my surgeon has suggested lipofill but not until later so that they only have to do it once.  Seriously considering this as the difference in boob size is substantial.
