Hi , sadly I can't answer how fast a tumour grows as I am sure that would vary from person to person. However I can say that it doesn't grow anywhere near as fast as we all imagine it does! I know from experience that the waiting period is horrendous and every ache and pain must be the cancer! However it's not and the majority of us who had a lumpectomy ended up with them removing a lump approximately the size they had originally said it was! So in those few weeks, nothing much had changed!!
As for the radiotherapy that is usually started once your wound has healed. Although it probably won't be until your follow up appointment following surgery. As this is when they discuss what they found and then pass you on to the oncologist who will deal with the Radiotherapy!
GOOD LUCK with your surgery I hope all goes well and that you are Cancer free very soon. Sal xxxx
Hi Rosieamber,
I had a lumpectomy nearly 2 years ago, with a 2cm tumour. I asked the oncologist how long it took to grow that size and she told me an unbelievable 7 years! Other ladies may tell you something else, I don't know if anyone knows for sure. I started my course of 15 radiotherapy sessions 6 weeks after my operation. I was apprehensive to start but strangely, I looked forward to going because i knew each visit, was a day nearer to ending my treatment. Take care , You'll be fine.
Best wishes
MO xx
