Hi

Has anyone had this operation?. I'm on Zoladex injections every month for a few years as told by oncologist today. Have been having injections for almost a year now and main side effect from that and Letrozole is hot flushes at night and am concerned about additional side effects from having the operation .

  • Hi Leolady56

So lovely to hear from you all this time later. Hope all going well for you. The last year has been a blur and can't believe it's been that long since you were last there when I reached out via this online community. So much has happened since then but ism still here another year later do that's a massive positive xx

  • Sash70 - Hi there, i initially had zoladex injections to suppress my ovaries, then having done some research i decided to go and have the  bilateral salpingo oopherectomy- ovary removal! I came to this decision due to the uncertainty of whether i was still pre menopausal or postmenopausal and wanted to make sure i was on the right medication which i went from tamoxifen to Letrozole post operation! The operation was straightforward 3 small incisions and was done by laparoscopy a small camera inserted etc! Post op it was a little sore for a few days but since then i havent noticed any difference as i was already having hot flushes and unable to sleep well prior to this op following chemo! Following the operation the hot sweats and insomnia is still the same but i would say the post menopausal pill letrozole does cause more achy muscles than tamoxifen but its not causing me major problems just achy limbs as though you have overdone it on the exercise! I hope this helps you a little to make a decision, if i can help you any further just ask Deb xx

  • Your experience helps  a lot. I have horrendous hot flushes at night which doesn't help fatigue and injections are awful so ooverectomy seems s sensible option at this point.

  • Im the same hun, the hot flushes are far worse for me at night keeping me awake but the oopherectomy hasnt made it worse at all, ive had no side effects from the procedure and i never needed to take the painkillers i was given it was just a little sore but nothing major! I can personally say im glad i had it done and as my cancer gene was scoring 8/8 for oestrogen i just felt safer getting shot of my ovaries altogether! Let us know how you go on and what you decide, best wishes Deb xx

  • Hiya,

I also had this op Feb 18. I was off work for two weeks as they recommend not to drive for 2 weeks. Quick easy op with minimal recovery time.Only a couple of days after with strong painkillers. I had 4 small incisions, one in my belly button, 2 each side where ovaries are and one just above pubic hair line. They are so small that no one would notice them unless I pointed them out. I was on zoladex for about 6 months beforehand. Immediately after the op, I did have more hot flushes than before but they soon subsided.

  • Thanks Deb. Really useful to get your experience. I have my annual review with surgical team this month so will discuss it with them. I need to find my gene score too. All the best Sash x
