Hi. First time on here. Started FEC on Monday, so day 5 now. Despite being told I would have first 3 days of feeling ‘invincible’ have felt pretty lousy, but today a very little bit better. Couldn’t eat until yesterday and have had little bit of rice pud, piece of banana and 2 slices of toast over the last 2 days. Any suggestions please, as I know I should be eating something, but just don’t really know what I fancy, or would fancy. Sounds stupid, I know, but guess there are lots of you who have had the same.

  • Hi

Welcome to the site and good to hear you have your first FEC done.  You're probably best to just follow how your body feels.  No point forcing yourself to eat something you don't want.  At least you have had something and keep drinking.   I always felt yucky for the first week of FEC but then had 2 weeks of feeling back to normal really, and often went out and met friends etc.  My appetite certainly came back when the nausea left after those first few days so bear with it.  You might find you are the same and turn a corner in the next few days.  My day 5 of my first FEC was actually Christmas Day (2017) and although I managed to cook a whole Christmas dinner for the family (WHY??), I just picked at it myself.  I remember feeling rotten on Boxing Day then got loads better.  So fingers crossed.  It seems like a long haul at the moment, but just take it a day at a time and a treatment at a time and you will get there.

All the best and take care,

    Linda xx

    Patience and faith

Hi new buddy. Food takes on a life of it's own during chemo. I found soft foods tasted like slime. I mostly existed on toast, tomato soup and cheese and crackers,  but eat what you fancy and little and often is best. You'll work out the best for you.

Glad it helped. The dietician at the hospital told me to forget the low fat stuff, you need your energy. Try swirling a little bit of cream through soup. I also made loads of homemade soup which is really good for you. I have got a book called The ROYAL MARSDEN COOKERY BOOK. That's got loads of useful stuff in it

Hiya Welcome to the group no one wants to join, but its the best group to be a member of in the circumstances.

Who on earth told you that you'd feel invincible, i use to describe FEC as first week poopy, second week not so poopy and week 3 felt great just in time for it to start again.

Don't worry about what you eat, just eat what you fancy. I lived on Chicken soup and cheesy garlic bread lol then on the last week i use to make up for it.

One bit of advice i would give you is, eat little and often even if you don't feel hungry. This use to stop me from feeling so sick.
