Hello to all of you lovely people, and welcome to May's Radiotherapt Chat. This is a place where you can offer support , ask for advice, receive support and just query anything involving radiotherapy. A couple of quick tips, if you're driving to your radiotherapy appointments each day, or any time, ask if your hospital offers free parking for people going through treatment, or if they have a voucher for a discount off parking fees, which a lot of hospitals do offer. Also, try to keep the area moisturised with a fragrance free lotion, to help with soreness.

For more tips, heres our Radiotherapy Tips Page and I'm sure you all have some of your own tips to share, and ones that people post that you will find useful.

Heres also A link from the Macmillan Information pages, which also includes a helpful video that some of you may want to have a look at.

This is the April thread for those of you who would like to see how the thread works, or to just have a look back at last months chat and see what you can find out from others. It will be locked shortly from replies, but you can still take a look.

This is my first time starting these discussions, and I'll be doing them often now to help my lovely friends, fellow champs, so I hope you can all put up with me! Haha. But for whatever reason you find yourselves here, just remember you're all so strong, amazing and simply the bravest. And we are always here for you. You'll always have your Macmillan family here for you, which includes other members who have helped you and been there for you.

Lots of love, hugs, light and healing to each and every one of you,

Alex xxxx

Hi everyone. I finished my radiotherapy at the end of March, but I plan on stopping around for a while. Yesterday I noticed that the skin at the top of the "sunburnt" area has turned a really dark brown/black colour. Today the skin is rubbing off. Is this normal? I only ask because I also started to wear a necklace for the first time since my rads and wondered if it was a reaction to the chain instead of a rad's side effect!

Good luck to all those just starting on the trail!

Question: Has anyone else has a hot red mark on their breast after the first RT dose? Obviously, I'm going back later for 2nd treatment ....AND...I  certainly was expecting redness after a few doses. Just wasn't expecting it after dose 1?

    Any thoughts?

Keep going ladies, you're all kicking radiotherapy butt! You're all amazing xxx

  • Hi to all playing rads roulette this month! I finished end of January but still popping in from time to time.

, I’m sure another lovely lady here got the ‘angry boob’ effect after the first dose, I think it was , hope you don’t mind , you were really helpful when I was having my rads and I’m sure I remember you saying you were surprised at the sudden redness but it all settled down?

, your skin sounds like the area I have, on the side of my zapped boob, where it was red then ‘tanned’ then had shiny patches, now has dark brown ‘scales’ which are gradually going. And my nipple has ‘peeled’ several times, now just the centre is still dark brown/ black. Post peel areas are pink or almost albino. Mottled effect. Lovely! But apparently not sinister, just rads damage that some people get, and should gradually resolve. I’m still moisturising daily. But good idea to  check in with breast clinic anyway?

Good luck to all! Gentle hugs, HFxx

Bank holiday weekend off - whoop whoop!

I didn't have chemo and I have to say I found the last 3 sessions a bit of a reality check.

Like the penny dropped ... it felt a bit surreal before.

Still, very positive, but didn't expect to feel like this.

Not sharing for dramatic effect but in case others are feeling the same ...

    And forward we go....
