Armpits!

Hi everyone

New to this and after a little help or reassurance. Have had a bad shoulder and arms for most of 2019 and Dr has referred me for physio which is booked for May. Was concerned about my one nipple looking a little odd so went to the dr today who  on examining my armpit found a gristly lump. Nipple and boobs all fine.

Referring me for a scan at breast clinic to establish what it is as could be the cause of all my arm pain. She said she was being over cautious but good to know what these things are.

Absolutely terrified this could be cancer and after (stupidly) Googling thought best to come to a team of people who know what they are talking about. Any advice would be great!

Thanks

  • Hello and welcome, Spade67.but sorry you find yourself here

we are just a gang of bc sufferers and survivors, not qualified medics, of course, but your GP has done the right thing in referring you (and you’ve done the wrong thing in googling!) unfortunately information on line can scare the pants off you and also be out of date, too.

breast cancers (should this even be the cause of your problems or at least exacerbating them) are readily treatable now and the vast majority are discovered by accident when small, get treated successfully and people leave the site.

my own? A year ago I had a mastectomy and only needed hormone busting medication for 5 years, and hopefully nothing else. I’m still around as I pop into other groups (was a Community Champion for those other groups for a few years) as you can see by my profile.

if you get the heeby-jeebies in the night do feel free to post on the ‘AWAKE’ thread as there are often folk who have problems sleeping and are on their mobiles/pads/computers to while away the night hours..... but please don’t scare yourself googling and if you do feel the need to research, stay on NHS sites or Breast Cancer Care or here  IF you are diagnosed and need info!

    Hey Moomy!

Thanks for replying. Given how amazing it seems you have been I feel a little daft posting. I’m just intrigued to see if people have had similar symptoms I guess in the hope all was well. Crippling anxiety doesn’t help at all!

You sound amazing and like your battles have been fought very courageously.

    Xx

  • No problem, it’s what us ‘old timers’ are here for - and I do ‘hope’ its Just a ‘frozen shoulder’ which actually are hard to treat and take time to heal. (I was an OT before retiring)

I’m sure you aren’t an old timer at all!! Isn’t a frozen shoulder when it can’t move? (Asking you not google Wink)

its the gristly lump that concerns me xxx

  • Yes, a gristly lump doesn’t sound normal so does need the fast breast clinic referral, BUT it might not be cancer!

A frozen shoulder is a misnomer really, as it does move but has pain and difficulty in some parts of the ranges of movements. I’ve a music conductor/French horn player friend who eventually went through surgery for hers, as it really prevented her doing what she adores!
