I'm having my 3rd chemo tomorrow carboplatin and docetaxel and hormone therapy treatment,I'm using cold cap and lost about 20% of my hair underneath the 2nd cycle...

I think the cold cap wasn't for proper this time tho as I said when I left the hospital that day...

Any having same treatment using cold cap please let me know how your hair has been thanks sam x

    Hi Sam,

My cold-cap wasn't properly fitted by my clinic and I lost most of the hair on the top of my head. Ended up with one of those medieval monk looks.

This wasn't as bad as it sounds and not as severe as the photo above. I was still able to use a hair attachment that was on an alice band instead of a full wig as I had enough hair left at the front to hide the bald patch.

My clinic was terrible with the cold cap. They were so hurried that they simply did not take the time to make sure it fitted snuggly and that the air which gets trapped in the cap had been forced out.

You may need to have a work with them and make sure they get trained to fit it properly or just take more care.

    Hi Sam,

I used the cold cap throughout 6 cycles of chemo (3-FEC, 3-T), and my hair thinned drastically. I also gained a small bald patch on the top of my head, and lost all around my nape for some reason......luckily the rest of my hair covered both. I constantly moulted during my chemo, and my hair became very tangled, which was the loose hairs knotting with the attached hairs. I never gave up though, I was adament I wasn't going to lose my hair, and I can honestly say that nobody ever knew I was a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy.

Stick at it if you can. It definitely is worth it.

    Best wishes, Rach xx

I got a bald patch on top of my head after my second chemo and convinced it was because it wasn’t on properly - I didn’t feel the pain I did the first time. I lost hair throughout treatment but the bald patch covered quickly and I’m glad I stuck the cold cap.

    Hi Helen

It was the wrong size of cap if the cap pops up on top of yd head once it’s on it’s too small better going up a size and pulling straps tight this is a common mistake and is purely down to lack of training and knowledge so bloody pointless

Hi, I’m 5 weeks since my final chemo and used the coldcap throughout. I retained about 50% of my hair. I had complete hair loss on the top of my head, but cover it with headbands. It’s started  to grow back, and is looking thick and healthy. I’m really happy I stuck with the cold cap. My question to anyone who has now finished is did you cut your hair short after the new hair started growing back, or stay with head bands or scarfs until the new hair was a reasonable length. Also was the new hair much thicker than the old hair, which is the case with me.

    really would appreciate any advice.

Thanks so much and continued good health to us all.

    Hi,

    Congratulations on finishing chemo.

I was in exactly the same position as you with the hair. I found the bald part was covered quickly but with poor quality hair. I didn’t have my hair cut really short, I did have it cut slightly shorter (had shoulder length hair) and had regular hair cuts to improve quality. I used the OGX biotin and collagen shampoo which really helped it to grow thicker and look more healthier. My hair returned to its pre-chemo quality after about 8 months

    Hope this helps
