Hi

I have my first scan soon then an op in about 4 weeks. I feel overwhelmed and very low.

  • Hi and welcome to the group. Many of us will know how you are feeling as we have been there. Any cancer diagnosis can be very scary, but be aware, bladder cancer can be treated effectively. I see from your other post you have had a cystoscopy and some tumours were identified. The scan is routine procedure to make sure there is nothing else going on and to give them a better picture of what they are dealing with. The op you will have is called a TURBT (trans urethral resection of bladder tumour). It sounds a lot worse than it is. Usually a day surgery case or maybe an overnight stay. The tumours will be shaved away and a biopsy will be taken. It takes a few weeks to get the biopsy results and this determines where they go from there. Many of us have been through this and are still here. It is the not knowing and uncertainty which causes anxiety. Once things get under way and a treatment plan is in place, things tend to get less stressful as you know something positive is happening. In the mean time, it is important to drink plenty of water regularly during the day to help keep things flushed out. There is always somebody about on here so if you have any questions or just want to talk, you can hit the reply button below to ask. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thanks for your information. Appreciated.

If i could switch my mind off it would be a lot easier. Its constantly worrying.

  • Hi,This is usually the worst time, waiting for procedures and scans. We are all here to help and support you, this is a lovely friendly group. It is difficult to switch off when you are newly diagnosed because it’s all new and overwhelming.Hopefully we can reassure you here.Love and best wishes.Jane xxx

  • Thanks for this. It really helps.

  • Hi zxcv, I totally understand your feelings because I've had them too at various times since my tumour was first found. On this site you will meet people living with different stages of cancer and and those who are now all clear (hooray!) We have had many different kinds of treatment because fortunately there is a really wide variety of treatment options, but what we have in common is one day we found out we had bladder cancer. There are many here ready to share their experience and knowledge and successes. This is a tough time but you are not alone. Sending love x

  • Thank you so much for that. I do feel less alone.

  • Hi ZXCV, firstly what others have already said is true, you are certainly in good company on here. Secondly, it is worth trying a few things to try and unwind, whether that is walking, music, relaxation tracks [many free on YouTube], arts, crafts, scrubbing the hell out of the kitchen floor, whatever. Hope something occurs to you, best,

  • Thanks Denby, im hoping to start feeling like doing something. Up until news on Thursday i was walking a lot and doing stuff, since Thursday im behaving like an ill person, i suppose its psychological that I know somethings very wrong and ive gone in on myself and want to lie around all day. Horrible feeling.

  • It’s understandable how you feel, just remember bladder cancer is very treatable, once you get on with  your treatment (if needed) you’ll feel an awful lot better. The waiting to find out results is the worst part of this. You take care and stay safe x

  • xxcv,

It is indeed a horrible feeling, where we eat, drink, & sleep cancer, we can't concentrate or do anything as these thoughts invade our every waking moment.  I worried for so long that I think I just exhausted myself eventually, & decided that I was having no more of it.  Of course the worry is a normal process that I think we have to go through, & it makes us more alert to any changes in our bodies which is no bad thing.  It'll be ok, we've got you x
