Hi, I'm really scared as I am currently awaiting a urine test after waking up in the middle of the night needing to pee - something that I don't usually do - and being shocked to find quite a lot of blood in the loo when I went to flush the chain. A further two or three small pees in the next couple of hours also had blood in them and then finally just a couple of small clots on the loo paper when I wiped but no blood in pee. I had a tingling sensation before and during the first two pees but no other symptoms. I have convinced myself it's cancer as am post menopausal and an ex smoker.
That was the night before last. I've had nothing since and no other symptoms. I called the doctor and he put me on antibiotics with a urine test next week.
We have had a terrible year to date and this seems like the final straw and came completely out of the blue, I feel there is no hope and am very frightened. I don't know who to talk to and am really looking for a bit of support as I know there will be some positive stories out there but right now as things are already very stressful, I've convinced myself I have bladder cancer and am finding it very hard to see any hope.
Hi and welcome to the group, although I am sure you would not want to be here. Blood in urine can be caused by a number of things, but needs to be investigated. Antibiotics are to combat urine infections. If symptoms persist then back to the GP and request a referral to urology. Some doctors are proactive doing this. Others need some persuasion, especially with females. We understand how you must be feeling. The thought of cancer can be terrifying and we always tend to fear the worst. Be aware that if it does turn out to be bladder cancer, then this can be treated effectively. The main test is a flexible cystoscopy (a camera in to the bladder) under local anaesthetic. Usually painless but sometimes a bit uncomfortable. A visual inspection will see what is going on and you can see for yourself on screen. Try not to think too far ahead although we know how hard it is not to. Sorry if I have gone in to too much detail for you. Always someone here to answer any queries. Best wishes.
Hi,I am sorry life looks bleak at the moment. This is a nice supportive group and you can post anytime and we will all try to help.It may be that your symptoms are not as worrying as you fear.Blood in the urine should be investigated though, but can be caused by infection and stones as well as cancer.Love Jane xx
Hi Speedboat (do you have one?),
As our fine friend Rily says, blood in urine can be caused by a number of infections as well as bladder cancer. That's just how it started for many of us including me.
This is just to assure you that there are many of us here who have undergone treatment and have come out the other side to continue to lead worthwhile, sometimes slightly modified, lives.
Come back to ask us anything, one of us will have the answer. Meanwhile, crack on doing the things you enjoy most and stay away from Dr Google where much of the information is out of date or misleading.
KBO as the man said.

I may appear to be listening but in my head I'm all at sea.
Hi crustybladder, no I'm afraid I don't have a speedboat :)
After an initial panic, I have tried to stay away from Dr Google, it wasn't helping.
It's been great to hear such positive things from people that have been there and come out the other side, it's helped a lot. When you're feeling fragile already, going over and over things in your head in isolation, it's easy to get worked up into a right old state before you've even had the tests.
Thank you
Hi,The isolation really doesn’t help at all.I think it exacerbates all our worries. We are here for you, love Jane xx
I was like you speedboat, blood in urine and then a test, left for a week then another test and finally a referral.
I was different in that the blood in the urine was there all of those two weeks and later.
Hard I know but try to relax. We always imagine the worst but sometimes its a simple infection.
best wishes.
If you are isolating and need a chat, Macmillan Buddies may be able to help, or you could phone Fight Bladder Cancer, Action on Bladder Cancer or the Reading Bladder Cancer Support Group Trust who I have personal knowledge of and all their volunteers have already had BC and treatment.

Thanks everyone. I have a CT scan tomorrow to be followed by cystoscopy in the next week or two. Still very scared but glad to get in the system. Urine dipstick test didn't show blood or anything else and no more in pee, which would have sent me into complete panic mode over the bank holiday. For someone usually so matter of fact I'm handling this pretty badly. It's really reassuring to know you lot are there for support. Thanks again.
Hi,I hope your scan goes smoothly tomorrow. We are all here to support you, best wishes.Love Jane xx
