Sore vulva and labia

Hi Everyone, I'm just coming to the last day of week 3.

My labia are very sore and my urethra seems to be taking a massive hit. I'm looking for advice on what other people have used on the labia and vulva to protect the skin.

I am drinking plenty of water but am having to go to the toilet every 30 mins. I was given intrasite gel, which is a wound healer for the opening to the urethra.

I have aveeno daily moisturising lotion but not sure if this is enough for those areas. My public bone also feels sore.

Also should I be putting cream on my anus?

Any help appreciated. Thankyou.

  • I invested in a shewee... it was a godsend for toilet trips..i also had a lot of wees in my sitz bath..

I put the flamigel and the aveeno on all areas.. not sure how much it helped...

I hope you get some relief soon x

  • Thanks Squeak,

I have a shewee in the back of a cupboard somewhere. Will get it into the bathroom and I have a sitz bath which is ready for me.

  • Hi a portable bidet bottle is handy for spraying yourself whilst having a wee to help take away the sting. Things will build up and I would even open my bowels sitting on the sitz bath full of warm water. I took cranberry tablets to help protect my bladder with lots of water. We all differ when finding suitable creams that help and my medicine cabinet is proof of that. Just e45 cream would sting and anything containing silver. It’s trial and error and keep your team involved as they can give you the appropriate creams like flamigel or flaminal. Loose clothing like harem trousers and you can get these perinium pads full of micro beads which can be put in your freezer. They come with a little sock to help prevent ice burns. Purchased from Amazon and used by mothers just given birth.

  • Some great ideas here thankyou

  • I'm so glad you have mentioned this as it's rarely discussed and my lady parts took the brunt of the pain for me. I don't have any tips other than to avoid toilet paper, drip dry and wear floaty pants with no underwear. It was also the last area for me to heal too. Which I'm not saying to scare you but rather so you know it's normal.

  • Hi Hal I put the flamigel and regular moisturiser everywhere. X

  • Hello Hal

Put cream everywhere, anus included, from back to front - anywhere in the triangle of tattoos.  Everyone experiments with various creams and all you have to make sure is that you don't have cream on prior to your radiotherapy appointment as it can change the dose given.  I bought a huge tub of QV cream which suited me.  I hope the intrasite gel works for the uretha, I wasn't affected but I am really sorry you are going through this.

I hope you get some relief very soon.

  • Hi  :)

I used moogoo cream all day everyday. That really helped me until week 5 then there was no going back. I had to stop using that and used a barrier gel to help with the burns on my groin.
I also bought a pet cooling mat and that was the best thing ever.
lots of water based baby wipes and strong pain killers but nothing helped with the burn inside my vagina canal :( that was the worst part for me and the last part to heal. I hope you have a better experience and heal quickly. 2 weeks after finishing 5 weeks of treatment, it all peaked! Everything was swollen and burning. They told me it wasn’t normal for anal treatment and told me to go to A&E - turns out it was normal.

  • Thankyou for sharing that Feather 653. It gives me hope that it will all heal.
