Hi everyone,

We have received some feedback that you would like a more recent recommended travel insurance thread set up.

The lovely @latchbrook set up the original 'recommended travel insurance thread' which you can still view here. Just so you don't have to go through the different pages of information to find recent recommendations, you can find the most recent experiences in this thread.

Please note, all recommendations are from Community members and are not recommendations from Macmillan. Please do your own research as to whether the companies are suitable for you.

This thread can be used to update the group when you've found an insurance company that provided you with cover at a reasonable cost from a recommendation you found here or elsewhere.

If you could put a little bit of additional information eg. whether you got a single trip or annual, cover for a cruise, worldwide, etc along with anything else that you think others would find helpful when they are researching that would be great.

You may also find reading Macmillan's 'Finding travel insurance when you are living with cancer' blog useful

  • If you're under 70 Heymondo are a good option. Their medical cover is emergency only so there is no coverage for existing conditions and therefore no medical questions at all. They seem very cheap and are very well reviewed. My son has used them several times.

  • I’ve just looked this up and  l can only find cover with maximum age 49. Perhaps they have changed the maximum age?

  • So sorry - apparently it's 69 for single trips of under 30 days, but 49 for anything else. I hadn't realised.

  • Hello did you get the visa. I am wanting to take my mam terminal lung cancer to see my son for three weeks.

  • Hi  Has anyone had any good results for a short stay UK travel cover?  An event which we used to find reliable has now demanded an 8-week cancellation or we lose our money. Meanwhile, my husband is recovering fro two (separate) lots of cancer treatment over the last year, and I am about to get what may be some unwanted news about my cancer ... so we dont know what is going to happen, and can't just go and buy something cheap and easy.

  • Apologies if I have not posted correctly by using Reply, the +New button only seems to start new threads.

  • Hope someone can point me in the right direction, my mum has pancreatic cancer, unresectable, and stoped chemo due to it making her so Ill, she really wants to go to Iceland for 4/5 days and try and see the northern lights, but struggling to get insurance, we tried insurewith but not go , as her pain keeps increasing and so they keep increasing her pain meds, and they won’t insure till it’s been stable for atleast a month and that’s not going to happen, and she will get worse so need to get it sorted now asap.

  • Hi

A trip to see the northern lights sounds like a fantastic trip but unfortunately, as you've found, it can be more difficult to find travel insurance when a cancer diagnosis is involved.

I haven't been in your mum's position when buying travel insurance so can't give any direct recommendation. However, you'll find lots of recommendations for travel insurance companies in the original Recommended Travel Insurance thread. If you haven't looked through it yet, clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there. As there are lots of companies mentioned, your best bet is to make a list and then work your way through them.

I do hope that you can get the travel insurance that you want and that you have a wonderful time.

  • I’m just concerned as I’m guessing all of them will want to do a chat to get a better idea of the condition and mum will get disheartened after more than one or two more declines.

  • That may be the case  but maybe the insurers would allow you to answer their questions on behalf of your mum?
