Hi everyone,

We have received some feedback that you would like a more recent recommended travel insurance thread set up.

The lovely @latchbrook set up the original 'recommended travel insurance thread' which you can still view here. Just so you don't have to go through the different pages of information to find recent recommendations, you can find the most recent experiences in this thread.

Please note, all recommendations are from Community members and are not recommendations from Macmillan. Please do your own research as to whether the companies are suitable for you.

This thread can be used to update the group when you've found an insurance company that provided you with cover at a reasonable cost from a recommendation you found here or elsewhere.

If you could put a little bit of additional information eg. whether you got a single trip or annual, cover for a cruise, worldwide, etc along with anything else that you think others would find helpful when they are researching that would be great.

You may also find reading Macmillan's 'Finding travel insurance when you are living with cancer' blog useful

  • That sounds very reasonable

  • We took out single trip couples insurance with this company when my husband was first diagnosed with prostate cancer.

They covered him on the basis that treatment was needed but hadn't started yet. The premium was a very reasonable £243.87 considering the cancer diagnosis and our numerous other conditions.

I've been stressing for weeks thinking that they would withdraw cover or increase the premium when I told them that he'd had surgery. I am the biggest stress head and worry if I've got nothing to worry about.

2 days ago I decided that the only way to solve this was to email them giving as much information as I could, including telling them he was having his first follow up PSA test yesterday. I reckoned if I out it in an email there was less chance of missing something and I would have evidence that we'd been truthful.

I honestly need not have worried. They emailed back and said someone would call me before 5:30pm. I then got a call from a lovely lady who said she would amend the policy and check if there was any additional premium to pay. Result, there was no increase and the confirmation with the updated health declaration was emailed to me.

I checked the wording and it just says treatment completed within the past 12 months. I told them in my email that I would let them know if there are any changes and I emphasised this over the phone stating that regular PSA tests will be needed as thing's can change with Prostate Cancer.

If anyone is struggling to find cover I can highly recommend this company.

  • hi   am trying to find out do you have to declare cancer ? have done quotes  and they come out more than the holiday cost thanks

  • Hello, val.h.  Yes you should declare all medical conditions as the policy could be void if you try to make a claim for any other condition and it turns out that you omitted to declare a condition.

If you look back to my first post 16 days ago you will see that I found a company that would cover people with cancer for a reasonable premium and there have been a few posts since then from others who have found it reasonable. I suggest that you contact them

    • I thought so too when it wasn't even 6 months since my CRS/HIPEC and declared my husband was on medication for blood pressure too.
  • hii cannot find your  post would you please repeat  insurance company thanks

  • val.h  You need to click the green back arrow on the bottom left side of the thread once to go back one page to page 7 to see my post and some more on the subject since then.

    The company is insurancewith.com

  • Hi and thanks Gettingon.

I am having a trial chemo for bladder cancer recurrence and was looking at very expensive (+£1000) travel insurance for a 10 day trip to US this October.
Just bought a comprehensive insurance package declaring everything including ongoing chemo, and premium was £68 using Insurancewith.

If anything it seems too cheap! But policy document looks like it covers my needs. Thanks again for the pointer.

    cheers
    Chasam

  • I used payingtoomuch.com to get European cover for husband and I. Got an annual policy for about 150 quid. I put my breast cancer on and my husband has multiple pre existing conditions. Works the same way as compare the market ie screenscraper and you choose policy for you.
