I have just been diagnosed with a small cancer on the rectum. The MDT team recommended an Anterior Resection. The surgeon who will carry out the operation was part of the MDT and disagreed with the others. He said a smaller operation, a local resection removing the tumour through the anus, would probably work. He said that if the removed tumour proved in biopsy to be of a certain type, I could then go on to the more intrusive surgery. The Anterior Resection involves a stoma, which he said would be place for a year. I would like not to have a stoma if possible.
Does anyone have experience of this choice?

There you should find others with experience of this and may be able to help. Click the highlighted link to get to the group and post your question in the group. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
