Hi
i have just joined the group and feel very nervous as not done this before
so I have just been diagnosed with skin cancer on my nose and have had the biopsy which confirmed the diagnosis as a BCC I am scheduled to see the plastic surgery team at the end of August but I feel very scared. I have had reassurance from the hospital that this not life threatening but I can’t help but worry about what it all means.
Is this normal ? Please if anyone on the forum has words of encouragement or support I would be grateful thank you
Hi Elodie and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I've had two BCCs removed over the years. Both were done by a plastic surgeon under a local anaesthetic and neither required any further treatment afterwards.
Your hospital is right that a BCC is rarely life threatening, but it's natural to be worried about the upcoming procedure and how it will impact you. The online community is divided into different support groups and I can see that you've already found and joined the skin cancer group where you'll connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.
When you feel ready you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Thank you so much for your kind words, your reassurance and making me feel very welcomed on this forum
I will update my profile
I look forward to being part of this forum and hope that I can give reassurance to others as you have done for me
thank you
