Hi everyone, I have stage 2 lung cancer. I will be having surgery to remove the top part of my right lung and a section in the lower part of my lung. My surgery is set for 4th August (a few weeks time)
I am petrified of this surgery although I know it could save my life. My big fear is coming round after surgery and the pain and the the days in hospital trying to cope with the pain and the ability to recover .
I am doing my best to get myself as healthy as I possibly can before the surgery. I am 70 years old.
I am new to the community so I am not sure if anyone else has had a similar experience of this kind of surgery.
Warm regards to all
Hi Lynne
Welcome to the forum. Im so sorry about your diagnosis. I had a different cancer to you so can't be much help, but if you join the lung cancer section https://community.macmillan.org.uk/cancer_types/lung-cancer-forum
And post there hopefully someone will respond who can be of help.
Meanwhile carry on doing what you are doing in trying to get as healthy as possible. Sending hugs. Xx
Bungle, I want to thank you so much for responding to me and directing me to the lung cancer community and your kind words. I was very reluctant to join a community site, as didn't realise how motivating and positive it would be, responses have be so kind and inspirational. Once again, thank you.
I send you
Love and Light xxx

Hi, I had stage 2 LLLobe Lung cancer. had surgery in November 2025. I can not take Opioids, so made it tough as far as pain! I had a chest tube….( that’s uncomfortable) , They did a nerve block I guess, where they put a needle in my back area and medicine was hung via a slow drip…. As I look back 8 months later, really not that bad, worst part was vomiting after anesthesia! Good luck, you will be fine if you do as they say….God bless
Hi Lynne,I had the top lobe and a third if the middle lobe and all the lymph glands of my right lung removed on the 30th of May this year, inhad robotic surgery,I had my op in the Golden Jubilee in Clydebank Glasgow, after my op the pain relief was amazing,I was able to get up and start my rehabilitation the next day I did everything I was asked to do .I had to stay in hospital a bit longer than I thought, because I had to wait until my lung reinstated,I am back doing all my own cooking cleaning and even a bit of gardening ,I am going to Crete on Tuesday for two weeks, I am 82 years old and I have more energy now than before my op,My advice is do everything they ask you to do keep it up after you get home,I try and stay positive,I wish you a speedy recovery I'm sure you will be back to your old self in no time at all.take care.xx
