Hi everyone,
Welcome to the Online Community.
If you're joining us late at night, or in the very early morning, we want to make sure you have someone to talk to. The Online Community is always open and we are making it easier for members to connect and chat with each other, whether it be 3pm or 3am.
We have created a new thread in the Cancer Chat forum to help bring members together in a place where they can chat through the night.
It's a new thread, so it might take some time to build a Community of members who support each other. We hope you might consider joining the conversation here - Awake and up all night.
If you are in need of professional healthcare support, but it's not an emergency, the NHS 111 service is open 24 hours:
For more emotional support you can also text "SHOUT" to 85258 to contact the Shout Crisis Text Line any time day or night.
Thanks all and do let us know if you have any questions. You can contact the Community team by email at community@macmillan.org.uk or send a private message to Moderator - Macmillan Community.
Hi Steph - Macmillan and everyone else in the Online Community team.
Thanks very much for setting this thread up in the cancer chat group and I'm sure lots of people will make use of it.
Anne
Hi. My name is Emma. I was diagnosed with breast cancer yesterday. I have never heard my mum cry like that. I am beyond broken.
Last night was the worst night of my life. My mind went to dark places and I couldn't breathe. I fear tonight will be the same so thank you for creating this thread.
Hi Emma/Embuffyfan10363b and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer three years ago. Since then I've had a lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and I'm now out the other side and enjoying life again. Do you know what your treatment plan is yet?
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join us over in the breast cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Anne.
Thank you so much for your kindness. I have updated my profile now and also added myself to the breast cancer forum. I am scared and feel so alone right now and can't see any light to come. I will use this community. Thanks so much
It's natural to be scared but breast cancer is curable and treatment definitely doable. It took about 10 months out of my life but now everything's great again.
((hugs))
