Hi

I've been diagnosed with SCCs, I've had six lesions removed with surgery and six lesions shaved, the dermatologist has prescribed Acitretin, does anyone have any experience or knowledge of this drug - side effects, success rates etc?   I'd welcome any help or information on SCC and Acitretin.

Look forward to hearing from you.

  • Hi  and a second welcome.

Although I have not had SCC I have lived with a rare type of Skin Lymphoma (not to be confused with Skin Cancer) for over ver 21 years and Acitretin was one of my many treatments for well over 10 years.

As the leaflet in your reply from my friend  in the Sky n Cancer forum says, Acitretin is a type of drug called a retinoid. Retinoids are closely related to Vitamin A and work by slowing down cell growth in the skin.

This worked well for me for many years and I had no side effects over those 10 years until my Lymphoma became aggressive and I had to move on to stronger treatments.

    All the very best.
