Hello I am new to the group. I am caring for my mum with stage 3C ovarian cancer. A little lost and a bit unsure of what I am doing? Want to make mum comfortable but don’t want to smother her!! Hope to share some experiences and tips and try and get my head around what’s going on x

    1. Hi I have just joined myself. I guess the reason is to find answers. My wife has stage four cancer in the last three months. From an extremely active women to skin and bones. She is only 52. I just don't know iwhat I can do for her to make her comfortable. She tells me not to change my ways, she seems more worried about me and our grow up children rather than herself.  She is a Very strong lady She's had six sessions of chemo so far, and the last one has knocked her for six. I am sorry, I really don't know what to write or expect from here.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to the Online Community but sorry that you had to find us. I am also very sorry to hear about your mum’s Ovarian Cancer diagnosis.

A cancer diagnosis will bring many questions, lots of confusion and stress but I found talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helped a lot.

The Online Community is organised into dedicated support groups and I see you have joined our supportive Ovarian cancer group, this is a good place where you will connect with others supporting family on the same type of cancer journey.

Follow the above link then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or just join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Talking with others caring for family and friends will help a lot so do also checkout our Carers only and Family and friends Groups as you will connect with others walking the same journey supporting family and friends through their cancer journey.

It’s always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support, financial guidance or just a listing ear.

Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.

Our Online Information and Support Section is a good place to find information covering diagnosis, treatments and pages covering most types of cancers.

    All the very best.

  • Hi  and a warm welcome to you although sorry that you have joined us and I am sorry to hear about your wife’s diagnosis.

As I said to Pennydrop21 The Online Community is organised into dedicated support groups and I see you have joined our Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer group, this is a good place to start where you will talk with others supporting family on the same type of cancer journey.

Follow the above link then choose ‘click to join' or ‘join’ when the page opens. You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘New Thread’ or just join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.

Could I again highlight our Carers only and Family and friends as these are safe places to talk with others navigating family cancer care.

    All the very best.

  • Thank you Mike, a bit daunting but I guess I will work my way through this Slight smile

  • Hi again , yes daunting is an accurate description of the initial reactions to a cancer diagnosis in the family. I was diagnosed back in 1999 with an incurable type of Lymphoma (blood cancer) and it took some time to navigate the journey but I have been in remission for a few years now.

Talking with others who have walked the walk can truly help put some order into the noise between your ears so do get connected into our amazing supportive groups.

    All the best ((hugs))
