Hi guys,
I'm finally reaching out for some support after reaching breaking point today. My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer in May and my heart has been breaking a little more each day since.
Over the last year my life has changed so much, I've moved in with my partner and his 2 children leaving my mum and younger sister at home looking after my dad.
He tried the tace treatment around September time but that did more damage than good. He spent months in bed. We eventually found out he was diabetic too. I felt really positive because I thought this meant the reason he was so poorly was down to his blood sugar. We had a few good months but over the last few weeks he seems to have taken a step backwards. He has become so slow, walking and talking. His short term memory seems to have taken a hit and with covid around I'm afraid of all the things he is going to miss out on. I'm terrified that we've just had our last Christmas with him.
I spent an hour crying and screaming in my car this evening to try and let out some of my emotions and this seems to have opened me up to feeling everything all at once.
I'm not sure how much I am supposed to post on here or what exactly I am meant to say but I'm Paige, I'm 26 and I'm really really struggling.
Hi Paige . Please allow me to welcome you to the community, although a welcome never seems appropriate in these circumstances. Sorry to hear your father has taken a step backwards in his treatment. I know how hard it is to have someone you love in this situation. Many people here will understand your emotions. We have a very supportive group here you may like to look at, Family and Friends. There you will find others with loved ones affected by cancer. Once you click on join the group, you could start your own conversation or join in with others. Click the link to get to the group. If you would like to talk to someone in person, the free Mac helpline is open from 8-8pm on 0808 808 0000. As well as emotional support, they will let you know what practical help your father is entitled to. Any problems finding your way around the site, click the reply button below to ask. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.
