I'm new to this forum even though I was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago. I had a mastectomy, chemo, radio therapy, herceptin and am now on Letrozole and somehow I managed to get through all of it still sane! However over the last few months I have found myself becoming more worried about recurrance and assume every ache or pain is cancer related and cannot stop checking my scar having convinced myself that its changing, even though I would struggle to back this up with any evidence.
I expected to feel like this - but at the start of it all not now. Does this seem familiar to anyone else and if so how did you deal with it.
Thanks
Hi and a warm welcome to the Macmillan Online Community, a Community that no one really plans to see themselves joining, and so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and ongoing challenges.
I have been on my cancer journey for over 21 years now with multiple relapses and even although I am 4 years into remission. I am not cured and never will be but based on my prognosis back in late 2013, I am living the dream.
A cancer journey brings a lot of confusion, stress and many questions but talking with other people who are on the same type of journey helps a lot.
The Community is organised into support groups and I see you have joined our supportive Breast cancer group, this is the place where you will connect with others walking the post treatment journey both as a patient or family.
Follow the above link then introduce yourself, post questions or just join in with existing discussions by clicking on 'reply'.
You may also find our Life after cancer group a good place to work through your thoughts with other like minded people.
What you are experiencing is not that unusual and this great paper by Dr Peter Harvey unpacks the post treatment milestones.
Its always good to talk and the Macmillan Support Services provides lots of information, support or just a listing ear.
Most services are open 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week and it's free to call on 0808 808 00 00 have a look by Clicking here to see what is available.
You can use other methods to contact our Support Services (LINK) and we also have our Ask an Expert section, but do allow two working days for replies from our expert team.
All the very best.
